Flood
Ryan Delmore Lyrics

Your body was bruised
Your hands were pierced
Your side was wounded for me

You knew no sin
But became sin
That I might become Your righteousness
Your blood was the flood that devastated sin
You've washed out all obstructions
Poured Your Spirit inside me
Now You live in me

Thank You, Jesus Thank You, Jesus
Thank You, Jesus Thank You, Jesus

Overall Meaning

These lyrics from Ryan Delmore's song "Flood" are an expression of gratitude to Jesus for His sacrifice on the cross. The first two lines mention the physical wounds Jesus endured during His crucifixion - His bruised body and pierced hands. The third line reminds us of the spear that pierced Jesus' side after He had already died. All of these wounds were inflicted on Jesus so that He could take on our sins and pay the price for them on our behalf. This is what is meant by the line "You knew no sin, but became sin, that I might become Your righteousness." Jesus, who was sinless, became sin for us so that we could be made righteous before God. This is the great exchange that takes place for those who put their faith in Him.

The next three lines reflect on the power of Jesus' sacrifice. His blood - which was shed on the cross - is likened to a flood that washes away all of our sins. It is a powerful metaphor that emphasizes Jesus' victory over sin and death. The result of this flood is that it has washed away all obstructions, leaving us free to receive the Holy Spirit. The final line repeats the song's central message - "Thank You, Jesus" - as an expression of gratitude for all that He has done.
