Georgia on My Mind
Ryan Innes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Georgia, Georgia,
The whole day through
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

I'm say Georgia
Oh, Georgia
A song of you
Comes as sweet and clear
As moonlight through the pines

Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you

I said Georgia,
Ooh Georgia, no peace I find
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you

I said Georgia,
Baby Georgia, Giorgia
No peace, no peace I find
Just this old, sweet song
Yeah, yeah
Keeps Georgia on my mind
On my mind

I said just an old sweet song,

Keeps Georgia on my mind
On my mind

Overall Meaning

Ryan Innes's version of the beloved classic, Georgia on My Mind, resonates with intense emotions that have been present since Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell composed it in 1930. The song itself was meant to be a love letter to the state of Georgia, as well as a message of love addressed to one particular woman.

Georgia, in this case, is both a place and a person imbued with deep meaning for the singer. Through the lyrics of this song, the singer confesses to feeling an intense connection to Georgia, a connection that lasts all day and all night. There is a wistful, melancholic quality to his voice as he sings of the song that 'keeps Georgia on my mind', a phrase that appears multiple times throughout the song, accentuating the emotional weight of the lyrics.

The verses alternate between the singer's reminiscences of Georgia and his thoughts on the state of his own life. The tension between the two creates an atmosphere of homesickness and longing. Despite the pull of other people and places, the singer cannot help but feel that the road leads back to Georgia, and the song acknowledges that there is 'no peace' to be found outside of Georgia. The song ends on the same wistful note as it began, with the melancholic refrain of 'just an old sweet song, keeps Georgia on my mind'.

Like Adam said.. Ryan's voice is just like one of those rare moments on The Voice.. he just connects with audience without trying too hard. I find many of the singers tend to "out sing" themselves by doing too much vocal acrobatic, whereas Ryan just took his time to showcase his voice.. Adam turned his chair even before Ryan finished his first word!
