Emerging onto the national music scene from his home base of Boston, Ryan Montbleau has been described as something of a Martin Sexton by way of Van Morrison and Stevie Wonder. Yet Ryan Montbleau Band’s music is difficult to pigeon-hole or neatly categorize. It is original yet familiar—a fresh sound full of firmly-rooted ingredients, including Americana, folk, blues, ragtime and ’70’s R&B and soul. Whereas the band’s intriguing instrumentation and arrangements (not to mention top notch chops) help to create this unique sound, all is firmly anchored by Montbleau’s water-tight lyrics and unmistakable voice.
Having begun his career playing Boston’s coffee shops and folk venues as a solo artist with an infectious, percussive, fingerpicking guitar style, the charismatic Ryan Montbleau has evolved into the front man for the eclectic ensemble that bears his name. Make no mistake—this is a band in every sense of the word and is powered by the dynamics of Matt Giannaros (acoustic upright bass, electric bass, vocals), Laurence Scudder (viola), Jason Cohen (piano, organ, clavinet, Rhodes, Moog) and James Cohen (drums).
Their first collective album, One Fine Color, was released on Valentine’s Day, 2006 and shows a cohesive vision rarely seen among young artists today. Several thousand copies have sold so far and the album has been raved about by music lovers of all types and, perhaps most notably, all ages (from senior citizens to infants and everyone in between). One Fine Color showcases the timeless songwriting, invigorating energy, and humble, honest sincerity that has allowed Ryan Montbleau Band to expand its passionate fan base one show, and one listen at a time.
This combination of art and personality creates that magical bond between performer and audience that Ryan Montbleau Band is fortunate to have in these cynical times. Sustaining the band through the years as they toured incessantly, virtually living on the road, they have already established a large, passionate following throughout the country.

Sound waves rolling, the waves spread wider.
You sing a song until it's six feet tall.
Walk, and stalk, and stalking on the side walk.
Wearing clothes standing side by side.
Fly little song birds on to the next line,
you sing a song you look each other in the eye like
Who all can tell you that your singing off key?
You're the dance, you're not the dancer
You're the song, not the one who sings.
Beautiful Song, Song bird
Na Beautiful Song, Song bird
Na Beautiful Song, Song bird
And you tell the truth
Me woman Trinny got the wild imagination.
Him think they looking when he walks on by.
Him think the world is one big mirror, him get upset then he don't feel right.
When he walks, stalks, and stalking down the sidewalk sporting clothes strutting stride by stride.
I tell him Trinny you're not what you consider,
I slap em dead when I look am in the eye.
Who all can tell you not to sing your story?
Who all can tell you that your singing off key?
You're the dance, you're not the dancer
You're the song, not the one who sings.
Beautiful Song, Song bird
Na Beautiful Song, Song bird (song bird)
Na Beautiful Song, Song bird
And you tell the truth
You get upset and then you don't feel, you don't feel right.
You try to fly up straight, then you fly uptight.
We try to talk about life like it's so many things.
Life is the dancer you're the dance.
Beautiful Song, Song bird
Na Beautiful Song, Song bird (song bird)
Na Beautiful Song, Song bird
And you tell the truth
Tell the truth.
The song “Songbird” by Ryan Montbleau Band is about the power of music and the importance of expressing oneself through it. The lyrics describe three songbirds sitting on a wire, singing a fiery song from their bellies. The sound waves they create spread wider and wider, and their song grows taller until it reaches six feet. The birds are described as walking and stalking on the sidewalk, standing side by side in clothes, and looking each other in the eye. The song suggests that anyone can be a powerful force and create something beautiful, even those who are usually thought of as small or insignificant.
The lyrics also explore the idea of people trying to silence others or stop them from expressing themselves. The chorus asks, “Who all can tell you not to sing your story? Who all can tell you that your singing off key?” The song emphasizes that the most important thing is to be true to oneself, despite what others may say. The lyrics suggest that people should embrace their own unique voice and own their story.
In summary, “Songbird” is a song that celebrates the power of music and urges people to embrace their own unique voices and stories.
