Jag viskar in i kudden
The lyrics of Säkert!'s 'När du dör' may seem morbid and solemn at first glance, but they reflect a deeper contemplation of human mortality and the legacy we leave behind after death. The opening line, "Jag kastar jord på din kista" (I throw dirt on your coffin), sets the tone of a funeral scene where the singer is performing the customary ritual of bidding goodbye to a departed loved one. He admits to having seen others do it before and wonders whether the gods he doesn't believe in are listening to his whispered words.
As he lies in bed later that night, the singer continues to reflect on the meaning of life and death. He whispers into his pillow, questioning the purpose of it all and whether there was a reason for his loved one's passing. He wonders if they could have just carried on as they were, with his loved one still alive and present.
The final stanza of the song offers a thought-provoking image of the cyclical nature of life and death. If the dirt he threw on the coffin were to grow into a tree, that tree would be cherished and protected for years to come. It would become a symbol of the person who once lay beneath the ground. However, if the coffin were to be turned into pulp for paper, the singer pledges to write poetry again, thus continuing the cycle of creation and destruction.

Jag kastar jord på din kista
I am throwing dirt on top of your casket as a final goodbye
Jag har sett det är så man gör
I have observed others do the same, it is a common tradition
Jag mumlar, undrar om gudarna
I am muttering to myself, wondering if the gods, whom I do not believe in, can hear me
Som jag inte tror på hör
Even though I don't believe in them, I still have doubts
Jag viskar in i kudden
I am whispering into the pillow
Vad var meningen med det här
What was the purpose of all of this?
Vi kunde väl lika bra återgått
We could have just gone back to when you were here
Back to the time when you existed, when you were still here
If the dirt I am throwing were to grow into something
Bli en gran ovan din grav
And turn into a tree above your grave
Så skulle de säga om hundra år
People would say in a hundred years
Aldrig att en gran ska huggas av
That this tree should never be cut down
For that tree, they will say, is the best tree
Som den här stan nånsin har känt
That this town has ever known
Och så kan allt som en gång var du
And everything that once was you
Finnas kvar för de som kommer sen
Will still exist for those who come after
Eller så hugger de ner dig ändå
Or they might still cut you down
Och gör pappersmassa i fabrik
And turn you into paper pulp in a factory
If that were to happen, I would write letters with a pen again
Då ska jag skriva lyrik
Then I will write poetry
