Ar ôl creu cynnwrf gyda’u EP cyntaf ‘Du a Gwyn’, gwnaeth y band ddim wir ffrwydro nes rhyddhau eu halbym hunan-deitledig, yn curo Albym y Flwyddyn, cael eu henwebu am ‘The Welsh Music Prize’, cynrychioli Radio 1 yng ngŵyl Eurosonic yn yr Iseldiroedd, yn ogystal â pherfformio sesiwn yn stiwdio chwedlonol Maida Vale. Hailing from North Wales, Ifan Davies (singer/guitarist), Ifan Ywain (guitar), Gruff Jones (synthesizers), Gerwyn Murray (bass), and Lewis Williams (drums) began the journey back in 2011 that was to offer them sizable opportunity and acclaim. After building a buzz with their EP ‘Du a Gwyn’ (Black and White). It was off the back of their 2015 self-titled debut that the Sŵnami journey really began, winning Welsh Language Album Of The Year; being nominated for The Welsh Music Prize; representing Radio 1 at Eurosonic festival in the Netherlands, as well as performing a session at the legendary Maida Vale studios. With their bright shining melodies and hooks good enough to dance around your lockdown bedroom to, Swnami are about to embark on their next chapter, with album number two on the horizon.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sŵnami's song Magnet tell the story of a relationship that has ended but the two people involved are still very close. The first stanza describes how despite the relationship being over, the two people have never been so close. The singer of the song tries his best to hide his feelings but his emotions keep getting the better of him. The little secrets that he keeps are dragging him deeper into the sea and he tries to hold back tears.

The second stanza describes how the singer's former partner is like lightning, changing thunder. Her presence pulls him under but despite the bitter taste of their past, he has never found anyone sweeter. He continues to struggle with the weight of the little secrets that he keeps, but he ultimately gives into them. The chorus is repeated several times with the singer admitting that he tried so hard to resist but ultimately gave in anyway.

The final stanza describes the singer's current state of mind. He seems to think that he still has something real with his former partner, but what he really needs is something broken.
