S.E.S. is considered one of K-pop's first highly successful girl groups. They were challenged by groups like Fin.K.L and Baby V.O.X, which debuted soon after S.E.S. and also enjoyed success.
The group's end came because of contract expiration of members Bada and Eugene in 2003, though Shoo eventually also parted ways with SM Entertainment in 2006. S.E.S. officially disbanded in mid-2003, after the release of the compilation album Beautiful Songs, though they had been inactive since 2002, when they released their last original single S.II.S (Soul To Soul), from the greatest hits album Friend.
In subsequent years, the former members ventured into solo music activies and also acting, to varying degrees of success.
In October 2016, it was publicly announced that the trio would be returning to the music scene to celebrate their 20th anniversary since debuting with the album I'm Your Girl. After releasing the buzz single Love [story], a remake of their 1999 single Love, through SM Entertainment's digital project SM Station on November 28, their special album Remember was announced, scheduled for a January 2, 2017 release with double title tracks Remember and 한 폭의 그림 (Paradise).

I'm feeling myself in the worst way
He didn't have to do it in the first place

Sitting on the side that's my prime
Only thing we running out is time
Don't accept your bad vibes I decline
Keep your two cent it's not a dime piece
Blue paper only thank you kindly
Got my cake up no icing
Jewelry on me cold like ice cream

The lyrics to S.E.S.’s song Birthday are quite interesting and open to interpretation. The opening line, “Oh noh, it’s my birthday” could potentially signify a sense of melancholy or disappointment as the singer may not be as excited about their own birthday as others may be. The following line, “It’s halfway for a broken hearted” could imply that the occasion of their birthday reminds them of a past heartbreak or perhaps they are halfway through their life and feeling a sense of sadness about not achieving certain goals.
The lines, “If you like to play, if you’re alone, and if you’re true” could be interpreted as an invitation to those who may be feeling lonely or down to participate and have fun. The mention of the “black label” and not to “say you will sue” implies that perhaps the singer(s) are involved in some sort of illicit activity, but want to ensure the person(s) they are inviting won’t get them in trouble. The repeated phrase “Deep deep deep” adds to the mystery and intrigue of the song.
The lines, “Sing my song and you’ll be included, all I have to considerate on in the act that’s misconstrued” could potentially mean that the singer wants others to sing along with them and be a part of their celebration, not focusing on the negative perceptions of their behavior. The final line, “It’s have a big fun if you want it too” ends the song on a somewhat positive note, indicating that despite any negative feelings or perceptions, the opportunity for fun and enjoyment is available if one chooses to partake.
