Stormtroopers Of Death includes the famous Billy Milano (M.O.D.) on vocals, Scott Ian on guitar and Charlie Benante on drums (both of Anthrax fame). Also, bassist Dan Lilker has been in many other underground metal bands, including Brutal Truth, Nuclear Assault, Exit-13 and early Anthrax among others.
S.O.D. don’t always write songs to anger, but often pen lyrics to amuse. For instance, in response to their (misconstrued) earlier lyrics, S.O.D. wrote the politically-correct (and Agnostic Front-esque) We All Bleed Red: a track that condemns racists and racism. Also, S.O.D. include healthy doses of humor for the metal fan, poking fun at Slayer (Seasoning the Obese), Celtic Frost (Celtic Frosted Flakes), and King Diamond/Mercyful Fate (King at the King/Evil Is In). The cover to Bigger Than the Devil is a tribute to the classic Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden.
From The BNR Metal Pages (http://www.bnrmetal.com/):
“06/25/2002 : Following personal disputes between Billy Milano and the two Anthrax members (Scott Ian and Charlie Benante) concerning the “Behind The Music” VH-1 program on Anthrax (Milano felt that Danny Lilker was slighted) the band is once again disbanded. “
Pussy Whipped
S.O.D. Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Your lips are brown from kissing ass
Sorry guys I can't make it
Maybe next time, think I'll pass
Don't make her mad, don't make her sad
A fate for you that's worse than death
you're a slave and you don't know it
It always happens to the best
[CHORUS]
Pussywhipped, Pussywhipped
Don't you know you're pussywhipped
Pussywhipped, Pussywhipped
Don't you know you're pussywhipped
She wants to be involved with you
In every little thing you do
Always has to add her two cents
It's obvious who wears the pants
Your friends all hate you, you don't care
Cause you've been trapped in her lair
And hopefully on day you'll see
That pussy can be caught for free
[CHORUS-MOSH PART-REPEAT FIRST VERSE-CHORUS]
The lyrics of S.O.D.’s song “Pussy Whipped” serve as a satirical commentary on the societal expectations placed on men to keep their partners happy through submission, emasculation, and subjugation. The song describes a man who is completely dominated by his partner- he “walks the dog, does the dishes”, and is too scared to reject her requests or leave her- he is “a slave and [doesn’t] know it”. The chorus literally calls the man “pussywhipped” and points to his subservient relationship to his partner, which is likely a result of him being “too busy kissing her ass”.
By describing the relationship in such a humorous and exaggerated way, the song’s lyrics convey the message that men should not have to succumb to societal expectations or their partner’s whims in order to be in a healthy, happy relationship. They point out that the man’s willingness to be a “slave” to his partner is something that is “worse than death” and that he is essentially “caught” by a free commodity.
The vocals of the song are thrash-inflected, with a fast-paced rhythm accompanying them. This, combined with the satirical lyrics and the comical tone of the song, makes for a piercing critique of the male subjugation in relationships.
