Tips for zombie apocalypse.
Ranged weapons
Best ones are the magazine reloaded pistols and automatic rifle like:
-Bareta M9
-AK47
-M16
-Glock17
-Dessert Eagle
Melee Weapons
Now if you dont have a gun then make sure you have a medium ranged melee weapons like:
-Machete
-Katana
-Base Ball Bat
-Metal pipe
-Rock on a long sock(Try to get creative with your melee weapons)
-Spear(Sharpen your knife and wrap it in a long sturdy stick to make one)
-Crowbar(Almost every house have one)
Knives, Hammer and Wrenches are short ranged and it is risky to attack a zombie with it.
Protection
Ok this is one of the most important in combat with zombies that everyone forgets so here are protection gears:
-Tape or Aluminum foil (Wrap it around your arm and legs to add more protection for bites)
-Shield(You could create one by getting a 2 to 5 inch and 4 to 6 feet wooden plank make sure it is sturdy add a handle and a rectangular hole and done)
-Leather boots(Look its a lit harder to bite and gives more protection)
Food and water
Examples are:
-Canned foods(It can even last forever)
-Fried food(it can last longer but it needs a container)
Vehicle
I know it sounds unnecessary but its also a need:
-Toyota(Reason I said is because you can build a fort in the back with wooden slabs and metal and you can add spikes and barbed wires, you can add a metal sheet on the whole car if you want)
-Truck(of course it has tons of storage and has a lot of defense because)

@ChoJun and that skull flesh and brain would be great at making sure your knife gets stuck, most likely it will be annoying getting it out of there head, also you can fend the zombies off with your foot or with your hand, just because it has a gun in it doesent mean you cant smack them with it. One thing people should do in zombie films is making a nosie bomb, wether being a Giant speaker, Monkey bomb or even a a alarm clock
Just having a something that can produce a Noise and can lead zombies away is a great thing especially when running from a horde, guiding them to a trap, or making them go to another place or something along those lines
You'd save yourself or those from zombies for a while

15:50 Firing off shots is pointless the engines of aircraft, especially helicopters are extremely loud. So loud that the flight crews and passengers will need hearing protection. This is usually a headset that enables communication while protecting the ears from the engine noise.
Even without hearing protection your shots won't be heard over the engine noise.
Without tracers the bullets are completely invisible. With tracers the air crew are more likely to think you are shooting at them and if the aircraft is armed they may counter attack.
On top of all that, bullets that go up have to come down, and it is possible to injure or kill anyone the bullet might hit.
While unlikely, people have been killed by bullets fired into the air.

Yeah, Dawn of the dead's zombies are actually very much on the forgiving side. You don't have some insane turn around time like "30 days later" (along with extreme infectivity). You don't have super physically capable zombies like world war Z. Nor do they possess any real intelligence, hell even seemingly completely forgetting about survivors out of sight for no more than just a few seconds (husband at the start after she closes the door)... The zombies are also very much killable, and not somehow near impossible to kill either, they are very much still human in that regard and not only that but impaired humans as well (think someone who is extremely sick essentially). If you had to pick a style of zombie apocalypse to try and survive, this is the one you'd want to try and deal with since it's the easiest... yet despite that we have a kill count of the majority, and many a stupid decision. Also the Mark Watney strategy is very much doable, sure it would take some serious effort on the part of the survivors, but potatoes are actually rather easy to grow and having an entire mall roof to do it is quite a nice amount of growing space. Sure you likely won't be able to grow enough to feed everyone, but every bit of food you grow is one less bit of food you have to try and scavenge or hunt for outside the safety of the mall.

Michael here is honestly one of the smartest and logical characters I've ever seen in a Zombie or any kind of apocalypse movie, being the voice of reason on various occasions during the film.
There's only one mistake on him, not considering the danger of using a chainsaw in a moving vehicle.
He could have also informed about his bite early and CJ might have not remained behind, but that's more situational and it was CJ's decision to stay behind anyway.

14:18 that's not necessarily true, especially as a backup sidearm. automatic and semiautomatic guns are much more likely to jam than a revolver. I would carry a revolver as a sidearm because if the gun I'm using jams, I'm almost certain that when I draw the 500 I have on my hip and pull the trigger, the zombie in front of me is going to die.

Ok I’m curious if this would work when they were trying to bring Andy food. If they lowered the dog by rope why not pick the dog or package up by rope? I’m sure there had to be something in that mall where they could’ve made it where the bag can be picked up by a hook. Seeing how that’s a gun store I’m pretty confident that there’s some rope in there.

@Andog 609 you could have attached a fishing line (spools of 500-1000 meters with breaking strains of over 80lb are normal) to the dog and had Andy hook the dog up to the roof, from there either;
1) tie one side of a rope pulley system and get Andy to pull it in and run an ariel pulley for supplies. There's way more than 1000m of rope in a sports store, you can pull it tight with a pulley on one side.
2) use that to pull a rope and bag of supplies across the ground
3) send multiple lines tied together across and climb over.

I'd go number 2 to get all the weapons and munitions to the mall, then number 3 to get Andy over

Andy if I remember correctly had a dog whistle so in theory this was actually a pretty good idea. They were gonna get him on the way out of town, so they could of waited till they were leaving to get the dog and Andy. The only reason it failed was the idiot scared the dog would get hurt. Considering how big mall parking lots are, I don't think rope would work and you would need a lot of it, plus a way to send the rope over to the other. Also in the movie when they use binoculars and the sign to talk , they look straight across at each other, if the building sending the food over isn't much higher, it is just gonna get stuck along the way. While it wouldn't most likely work in real life, the best plan would have been to draw all the zombies to the mall, go through the sewer, come out the manhole and into the store.

I feel like the only shotgun worth picking up in a zombie apocalypse would be an AA-12 Automatic Shotgun. They use magazines and can even use drum mags, however its not really realistic since you wouldnt see those outside of military armories.

In the DVD extras there is an Andy video log/dairy. It chronicles his time since the beginning of the outbreak till he gets bitten. He does say he could wipe out the zombies given how much ammo he has, but after spending all day trying he gives up stating that they just keep showing up no matter how much he shoots.

On the statement on revolvers sucking, depending on your resources and how long the apocalypse would last a revolver would actually be the best choice in my eyes because it would require in theory less maintenance than a semi-automatic pistol, and loading speed isn't really an issue if you get proficient at loading 2-3 rounds in one go, also if all conventional firearms (Cartridge firing) are gone finding a Uberti or pietta 44 or 36 cap an ball would be just as effective, granted it would have to be cleaned extremely often but if you have the means to make powder/bullets, you would also have the means to keep it running forever just about since black powder is insanely easy to make with very little skill and 36/44 cap and ball revolvers were used all the way up until the 1880's with many people in other countries and even people with legal troubles carry them to this very day because they can legally obtain it.

Making a make-shift pike long enough to use from the roof you can just use gravity to easily stab zombies from a safe distance.

you can tie yourself to something heavy and tie your hands to the pike to prevent zombies from pulling you or the pike. Also if you add short blades around the pike (like razor blades) if a zombie grabs on to the pike it's hands will cut and slide off the pike, preventing them from pulling on it.

I’ve always thought sports stadiums were underrated zombie survival locations. There’s always at least one line of protection (the stands around the field) but there’s generally also another wall/fence outside the stands. There’s a lot of times plenty of lockable rooms, a large open space for recreation and growing crops, and is often surrounded by open areas like parking lots.

Another thing, how was she infected? If she got bit she would've most certainly have told her parents and they should've taken her to a hospital (this action is from the fact they don't know what the bite will do). Why do so many people get bit and not tell anyone? I get that they want to live but after seeing what the bite does they're doomed either way.

I always wondered why they didn't utilize the propane bombs to clear the horde? Andy could have easily sniped the tanks from his perch and they could have found a way to distribute them into the crowd. Also, armoring up the delivery truck seems more practical than the buses... It was already right by the loading bay, so they would have access to it, and it's taller, has a stronger engine, more carrying capacity, and sheer surfaces. You'd only have to screen the door windows, since the cab was flat on the front.

It's weird that the military is always "overtaken" but movies always fails to consider that it has tanks missiles jets bunkers and everything.
they always make survivors make apocalypse vehicles, and yet fails to show any military tank because it is the ultimate zombie proof vehicle.

To be fair about her just realizing it was the bites, up until then she saw people die just from being attacked. It could also be the situation where no matter what bite or not you turn into one. Only after someone was bit and lived could that be realized to be the cause. [Edit: The fact that later she was able to confirm when the Granny was shot without being bitten.] That being said, the infection seems to behave more like that fungus I think it is that will grow on an ant and still make him move around after death. The initial people infected without being bitten (been a while so correct me if details wrong and they were initially bitten) by another infected person would be the ones to die possibly from dehydration.

However, because we see the transformation is a matter of hours and that it kills them before coming back we know that the people walking around are already dead so the timetable is not a matter of dehydration but actually decomposition. As an example, her husband got his neck ripped open and bleed to death. We 100% know he died but still came back so this situation is not infected zombie territory and thus living body logic doesn't apply. In infected situations we typically see them change but not overtly die. Now because these people are already dead shooting the brain does make more sense.

Most people know people need the brain to function. They don't know what actually caused it all. The safest bet would be to aim for the head which would be a definite death. Shooting the body in this situation wouldn't kill them because again they are already dead. Wounds would be irrelevant. From this standpoint, you can assume that the brain is the only thing causing them to remain "alive" (or well moving). I mean for a real example you have people in commas. They aren't moving in this situation but the brain is still functioning. Course you also have opposite end with vegetative states where the person is brain dead but body being kept alive.

Also. Fran is taught by Steven on how to fly the chopper. Peter doesn't know how by the end of the movie. Next, they don't clear out the mall first. They block the doors with the trucks first which gets Roger the 2nd Swat Officer bit twice. Then they load up with guns and then they lock all the doors to the mall. Then they clear it out.

I think I would have prepared the mall first floor completely as the worlds largest booby trapped maze. Built a zip line from the roof and used a drone to fly it across to the gun shop. That way sending supplies back and forth on the line would be incredibly easy.
Disable the elevator for sure. And then permanently close off all outside doors. Malls have enough resources to rebuild a small community. The odds of zombies being able to break in are slim IF the mall was empty and untouched already.

This was the first horror movie I ever saw in a theater (I was 12), I snuck in with my sister and her friends who were much older. I was absolutely ruined for months. It’s not even close to the level of Sinister or The Exorcist as far as scary/disturbing movies go, but by god the girl appearing in the bedroom still gets to me.

My parents were not pleased with their almost teenage son sleeping in their room for a week afterwards.

From my experience with bikes i can say that in a zombie or any apocalypse scenario, a bike is OP, you can go very fast on a good road and it doesn't need fuel, it's easy to repair and you can mount rocket launchers and machine guns to it.

Even in the original Dawn of the Dead from 1978 while in the movie they show a gun store in real life the gun store was in a separate place from the mall they filmed the movie

@floral you can not walk into a gum store and just pick up a gun. While I have seen a few with little racks of used guns, but everything else is locked in a display case, or behind the counter. I am sure some places aren't smart enough to do this, but common sense says if someone walks in a gunshop with a pocket of ammo and picks a gun up could do some damage. Most store all employees carry firearms and despite what some people think, if you do something stupid in a gun shop, they aren't gonna sell you a gun. If you do something bad enough you gonna have every employee aiming a gun at you, and run the possibility of being physically detained by an employee.

I think you underestimated the dogs a bit. It was reported that the dogs left behind in Chernobyl turned feral withing a matter of a couple of weeks, forming packs.
That being said, it's hard to say if it would matter. The people in Chernobyl tried to bring their dogs, but weren't allowed because their fur really held on to the radioactive dust. They were roaming free outside. Most pets when left outside are still leashed.

Each category of firearm/type of action has its own pros and cons. Pump action shotguns are slow to reload, mid capacity, high stopping power at close range. Single/Double stack semi automatic pistols have mid to high capacity, varying stopping power based on caliber, and can be reloaded quickly. Lever action and blot action rifles require you to take the gun off target to rechamber a round but offer high accuracy at long distances. There are many more examples but given all of this I'd try and keep a Glock 21 on me. It's a gun I actually own, has 13 round mags, can be reloaded effortlessly and very quickly, and fires .45 ACP rounds- a somewhat common caliber with decent stopping power. I'd always keep a knife for close quarters and an aluminum baseball bat as my primary melee weapon. Bats are easy to use and somewhat durable making them an obvious choice for me. All of this in mind, I'd probably still get clapped early on because I'm out of shape and a smoker. Can't run very long or fight well when you get winded easily.

If I'm not mistaken, one of the post credits was the engine dying or the boat out of gas, so I don't know if they'd have the option to circle the island first, though I guess they could have anchored off shore and made some noise to see what would happen. At that point though, I think their morale was so low and their desperation so high that they just didn't even want to consider that this last hope was compromised.

To be completely frank though, given that these zombies look to be actual dead reanimated corpses (and, outside of alien disease or nanotech would NOT be able to be reanimated by anything other than a malicious supernatural influence), I don't know that these folx had any chance of beat the horde. I also wonder how long EVERY mall access point would hold before the zombies weakened at least one of them enough to break through. Joy montage aside, I can't fathom that any of those people were able to get a good night sleep with the constant moan and banging of zombies right outside the doors.

PS: This is one of my favorite zombie movies, and one of the few Snyder films that I think he knocked out of the park.

I disagree. Shotguns are good in a zombie apocalypse due to the fact that the pellets cover a wide area with each shot, making aim less important. Revolvers are also less prone to jamming or misfiring, making them less reliant on repairs and maintenance compared to semi-automatic pistols.

@Retard: well it is but it’s not hard to move around in or run in. It’s just adding a bit of weight all over your body making it ever so slightly harder everywhere. You can’t run for as long in it though and you’re only really stopping bites. Cloth would be perfect. Rubber foam and metal foam if you have access to them are also breathable, lighter, and more effective

@Icalasari again leather wouldn’t be as good as cloth. Leather is harder to maintain, easier to tear, pierce, and crack with blunt force if you aren’t maintaining it. Kind of just useless and non insulating. You wouldn’t even need other clothes really

I believe shoot them in the head or destroy the brain is just an easier though misleading way to say sever the part of the brain that controls motor functions from the spine, ya know the apricot shot.

Also I would argue for revolvers seeing as a revolver is a sidearm that requires less maintenance and is considered more reliable, you should be carrying a primary weapon like a rifle or something like a baseball bat not a handgun, the sidearm should always be a last resort meaning low capacity isn't really the issue because if you're drawing it you're probably not needing more than 5-7 shots unless you made a very bad mistake, but mostly because I'm a revolver guy

The impressive part of this movie was how early it was to the Zombie Horde and Apocalyptic scene in the early 2000's. this one in particular, i know is a remake of the really good 70-s variation of it(fun fact the sheriff on the news saying "Just shoot them in the head, they seem to go down permanently after that" was the antagonist in the original). This movie set THE BAR for zombie movies, way scarier than the resident evils coming out at that time(which were the peak originals)

Bruh, this is Romero-verse, as he’s stated in the past, the concept of the undead/zombies doesn’t exist in their world. Basically, White Zombie(1932) never existed and as such the idea of zombies never expanded beyond voodoo myth into the biological mass zombification we all love.

No they don’t have a higher IQ.... and “more educated” in what exactly.... last I checked education is a specializing thing meaning a farmer is more educated than you in farming.... in the apocalypse... who becomes the more “educated” the person with a political science degree or the guy whose been hunting his entire life and knows how to survive and has plenty of ammo no doubt stored up.... your idea of “more educated” is flawed beyond all reason and only further goes to show how liberals in general lack the basic concept of “common sense”

Also as for the rest of the “facts” .... do I really need to tell you that you need to look at per capita..... I’m not sure about the actual numbers but I do know that there are less college students or rather “higher education” students then there are your non college person.... meaning that there is bound to be a bigger pool of people and as such you’d expect a larger number of suicides.... so you need to look at per capita instead of total volume of numbers.
