A native of Reading, England, Lewis first became interested in music in his teens and played in several bands before he started experimenting with remixing tracks. Influenced by the introspective pop of Bon Iver and James Blake, as well as the club-ready hip-hop of artists like Common, Timbaland, and the Neptunes, Lewis began posting his own evocative, moody tracks online. He quickly built a loyal following, and eventually nabbed a residency DJ'ing at London's Chibuku Club.
In 2014, his remix of Jessie Ware's song "You & I (Forever)" caught the attention of Ware's label, PMR Records, who then signed him. A year later, he released his debut EP, Shivers. In 2016, Lewis delivered his sophomore EP, Yours, which included the track "Holding Back," featuring Gallant. Lewis' 2017 output consisted of the Toulouse-aided single "Times We Had" and the solo track "Smart Aleck Kill." He returned in January 2018 with "Aura," a bright yet low-key track featuring vocalist J Warner. The song appeared on the disco-influenced Dusk, which kicked off a trilogy of club-centric EPs slated to appear under the combined full-length album title of Dusk, Dark, Dawn. Meanwhile, he continued releasing singles including 2019's "Blue" and the Clairo collaboration "Throwaway." ~ Matt Collar

And finally, I'm fallin' under
But she would never give me away
So it seems
I'm comin' up so hard, don't leave with
Someone else, don't run away
'Cause I'm feelin' my dreams will always be about you now
We could always blame it on the chemicals
I might be seein' double but I need you both
Might be seein' double but I need you both
But if you to stay
We could keep it goin' 'til the mornin' sun
I might be seein' double but you're still the one
I might be seein' double but you're still the one
If you stay
If you stay
Think I took a bit too much
Eyes a wider lens
And I see it all so much clearer now, this time
Do you feel like I do?
Do you still feel it too?
I'm glad you put your poison in my cup
And never asked me
If you stay
If you stay
If you stay
We could always blame it on the chemicals
I might be seein' double but I need you both
Might be seein' double but I need you both
But if you to stay
We could keep it goin' 'til the mornin' sun
I might be seein' double but you're still the one
I might be seein' double but you're still the one
If you stay
If you stay
If you stay
We can always blame it on the chemicals
If you stay
I might be seein' double but I need you both
The lyrics to SG Lewis's song 'Chemicals' center around a person's intense and all-consuming infatuation with someone. The singer is fully aware of the hold this person has over them and how much of a grip they have on their emotions, but despite this, they cannot resist their allure. In the first verse, the singer acknowledges that they are "fallin' under" this person's spell but also knows that this person will never give them away. The singer wants this person to stay with them and not leave with someone else, as their dreams will always be about them now.
The chorus of the song shows that the singer is aware that their obsession with this person is partly the result of the drugs they have taken. If this person stays with them, they can "blame it on the chemicals" - the drugs being the reason for their behavior. The singer is aware that they might be "seein' double" but still needs this person to stay with them. If they stay, they can prolong their time together until "the morning sun."
The bridge speaks of the clarity the drugs have brought, how the singer can see everything so much clearer now. They ask the person if they feel the same way, need them as much as they do. They are glad that this person put the poison in their cup without asking. The song is a portrayal of how drugs can exacerbate already intense emotions and the all-consuming nature of infatuation.
