All Those Opposed
SNFU Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Way back when I was a kid
My mother, she always said
There are those who will do you wrong
To make you feel as if you don't belong

Way back when I was a kid
My father, he always said
Be sure to speak your mind
Just be prepared to pay

Be prepared
Nothing comes without expense
Be prepared to face up to the consequence
Not everybody feels the same as you
There are those who will oppose
What you say and what you do

Now that I'm away and fully grown
Now that I'm out and living on my own
I have discovered that they we're right
I am thankful for their advice

I just do just what I do
Even at the risk of upsetting you
First, I must satisfy myself
Before I can please anybody else

Be prepared...

Overall Meaning

The song "All Those Opposed" by SNFU is a powerful anthem about staying true to oneself despite opposition. The lyrics speak to the lessons that the singer learned from their parents, who warned them about the existence of people who would try to bring them down and make them feel like they don't belong. The song encourages listeners to speak their minds and stand up for themselves, even if it means going against the opinions of others. The chorus, "be prepared to face up to the consequence / not everybody feels the same as you / there are those who will oppose / what you say and what you do," is a powerful reminder that staying true to oneself can come at a cost, but it's worth it in the end.

The second verse reveals that the singer has now grown up and is living on their own, and they have come to realize that their parents were right. They thank their parents for their advice and continue to live by their principles, even if it means upsetting others. The lyrics, "I just do just what I do / even at the risk of upsetting you / first, I must satisfy myself / before I can please anybody else," highlight the importance of self-care and self-preservation in a world that can be hostile towards those who dare to be different.

Overall, "All Those Opposed" is a powerful message of self-empowerment and standing up to those who try to bring us down. It's an anthem for anyone who has ever felt like they didn't belong or like they needed to hide who they truly are in order to fit in.

I live in Detroit.. When ever SNFU would come around in the 80s and then some, Me and my friends would give the band a place to sleep after the show. In return a bunch of us would travel to Canada.. Surrounding states to support them. Never had to pay cover. Always came home with a shirt and a pile of stickers. SNFU.. Sausage Never Fries Unevenly... At least that's what Chi told me LOL
