Fool
SOHN Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Flows to the surface
Don't be a fool
Don't be a fool
Climb out the window again
Slipped on the water
Don't be a fool
If only for justice
If only for her
Don't be a fool
Don't be a fool
Give away that card
And take all that I've got
Don't let me wander
Don't let me wander
If only for justice
If only for her
Don't be a fool
Don't be a fool
Give away that card
And take all that I've got
Don't let me wander
Don't let me wander
In SOHN's song "Fool," the repetitive lyrics "Don't be a fool" remind the listener that foolishness is not the answer to any problem or struggle. The first two lines set the tone for the rest of the song by addressing a recurring "crave" that "flows to the surface." Although it is not stated what this crave is, one can infer that it is something that causes the singer to act foolishly. The chorus urges the listener to resist foolishness, not to "be a fool."
The second verse tells a story of the singer climbing out of a window and slipping on water. Again, the line "Don't be a fool" is repeated, emphasizing the need to be cautious and not act recklessly. The bridge of the song repeats the lines "If only for justice, if only for her" before returning to the chorus. The idea of justice could refer to the desire to do what is right, even if it is difficult. The mention of "her" might refer to a significant other or an important person in the singer's life.
Overall, "Fool" is a plea to resist foolishness and act with intention and purpose. The repetition of "Don't be a fool" drives this message home and encourages the listener to stay focused and grounded.
