06-My Own
SOiL Lyrics

Deep within me
Feed my strength
Your words are empty
Look inside and you will see
Break inside break inside
And that's something to me
I've grown, Too strong
To be under your feet
See the hands
That try to hold me
Read the past
I never was free
Deeds of shame
The world around me
Know my pain
The world that I see
In "My Own," SOiL calls for self-empowerment and stands up against the forces that hold us down. The opening lines of "Feel my angst, deep within me, feed my strength, your words are empty," set the tone for the song as a cry for self-determination. The lyrics "break inside" emphasize that this determination must come from an internal source, not from external validation.
The chorus repeats the refrain "I am my own," which signifies a desire for self-possession, and the firm affirmation that the singer is proud of his or her capabilities. In the second verse, the line "See the hands that try to hold me, read the past I never was free," alludes to the societal forces that seek to restrict personal and social freedoms. The lyrics acknowledge the shame and pain that may accompany this struggle for self-determination and self-empowerment.
Overall, "My Own" is a powerful anthem for those seeking to rise above external oppressions and claim their own autonomy. The lyrics encourage introspection, strength, and resilience. The song speaks to personal and societal struggles and offers a reminder that, in the end, self-empowerment is ultimately up to the individual.

Goddamn, this shows why Ryan should've stayed with SOil. He fit so perfectly with the band. New guy doesn't quite have the emotion behind his voice.
