Pick Me Up
SOiL Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Is the thought that it won't last
I got to give it this, it's moving fast
Better make a mark before it all pass
Whoever thought that they had doubts had better think again
You cannot begin to understand all the things I am
That's for sure
If my world falls to pieces, will you still be there to
I got respect for the people who listen
To the people who understand the way I am
And the way I act
This is my life, there's no changing that
Pick up the pieces of me
Pick up a piece
(Repeat)
The lyrics to SOiL's song "Pick Me Up" are about the fear of losing something that is moving too fast. The singer acknowledges that time is fleeting and the thought that what he has now may not last is a constant presence. He encourages himself to make a mark before it all passes by. The singer then seems to address those who doubt him, telling them that he knows who he is and they cannot understand him completely.
The chorus "If my world falls to pieces, will you still be there to pick me up?" suggests that the singer has a close relationship with someone who he believes will support him even when everything else around him is falling apart. He professes his respect for those who listen and understand him, acknowledging that this is his life and there's no changing that. The repetition of the phrase "Pick up the pieces of me" suggests that the singer needs someone to help put him back together when he falls apart.
Overall, the lyrics explore themes of fear, self-assurance, and the importance of having support from others. It's a song about the fleeting nature of time and the importance of living life to the fullest while it lasts.
