Vision just as clear with my eyes closed
For a language only you and I know, I know
Don't know where we're heading but we're so close, so close
Dancing on the edge of something beautiful
So stay with me now
My heart is calling out
Say that you want me now
Why don't you
Spit it out, say it loud
Stop with all the Chinese whispers
Set it off, scream it out
Quit with all the Chinese whispers
Intensity so high off the Richter scale
Trembling so hard, let it ricochet
Trying to keep composure while the ground shakes, earthquake
Hanging onto every word that you say, you say
Rushing on the edge of something beautiful
So stay with me now
My heart is calling out
Just say that you want me now
Say that you want me now
Why don't you
Spit it out, say it loud
Stop with all the Chinese whispers
Set it off, scream it out
Quit with all the Chinese whispers
I see you talking
But I'm hearing nothing
Need you to hit me with it hard, hard
Spit it out, say it loud
Stop with all the Chinese whispers
I see you talking
But I'm hearing nothing
You got me out here in the dark
Tip of your tongue don't know why you still holding back
(Quit with all the Chinese whispers)
I see you talking
But I'm hearing nothing
You got me out here in the dark
Tip of your tongue don't know why you still holding back
(Quit with all the Chinese whispers)
Why don't you
Spit it out, say it loud
Stop with all the Chinese whispers
Set it off, scream it out
Quit with all the Chinese whispers
I see you talking
But I'm hearing nothing
Need you to hit me with it hard, hard
Spit it out, say it loud
Stop with all the Chinese whispers
The lyrics of Svrcina's song "Whispers" explore the frustration and confusion of not being able to communicate clearly with someone, despite having a deep emotional connection with them. The use of "Chinese whispers" as a metaphor highlights the misinterpretation and miscommunication that can arise when messages are passed along a chain of people, each adding their own interpretation. The singer is desperate for the other person to stop holding back and speak their truth directly, rather than relying on vague or unclear messages.
The first verse describes the singer with their hands over their face, playing along to a secret language that only they and the other person know. Despite not knowing where they're heading, they are so close to something beautiful that it makes the situation all the more intense. In the second verse, the intensity is compared to an earthquake, with the singer hanging onto every word but struggling to keep their composure as the ground shakes.
The chorus repeatedly asks the other person to stop with the "Chinese whispers" and to be direct and honest. The bridge features repetition of the line "I see you talking, but I'm hearing nothing," emphasizing the frustration of feeling like the other person is not being clear. The song concludes with a final plea to "Spit it out, say it loud, stop with all the Chinese whispers," as the singer searches for clarity and honesty in the relationship.
