I ni ciel
I ni soleil
I ni la line épi lanmè a
I ni bèl fanm ka passé toute la jouné...
I ni bon bagay an caraibe la... Ro o o oy
Mai i ni défauy ossi,
Kon si nou pa té ni assé ek tou sa nou ni,
Kon si profondè lé péché
Nou an pa té ka suffi...
Et soi disan
La pelé té ba nou an lisson...
An lisson-on!!

Kon si pa té ni assé malédiction pou souyé péyi a
Kon si pa té ni assé dézod pou dézonoré péyi a

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sael's song "Péyi ya" (This Country) speak about the deep-rooted issues present in Caribbean culture. The song starts by praising the beauty of the sky, sun, and sea in the Caribbean, along with the alluring women who pass by. However, it doesn't take long for Sael to point out the flaws in the culture.

Sael sings about how the people of the Caribbean always want more - more rum, tobacco, whiskey, and drugs like ecstasy, cocaine, and crack. He talks about how they have nightclubs, bordellos, and strip clubs, but even then, they crave more, adding in nudist beaches and swinger clubs. The song also mentions that they celebrate Christmas with pig's blood and have Carnivals where they honor the devil by adding Halloween and an additional Lent celebration.

The chorus of "Kon si pa té ni assé" is repeated throughout the song, which means "it's as if we never have enough." Sael is criticizing the never-ending cycle of craving more and never feeling satisfied. He implies that Caribbean culture is cursed, and they've dishonored their land with their actions.

Overall, "Péyi ya" is a song of criticism and reflection. It questions the actions and traditions of the people in the Caribbean and encourages them to be content with what they have.
