I had my tonsils removed when I was 10 because of how many tonsil stones I had, the surgeon said there were too many to count on the back side of my tonsils and it was one of the worst cases he's seen of tonsil stones. They were so bad I couldn't swallow solids. It started with pain, then feeling like there was something stuck in the back of my throat and then slowly it got more and more difficult to swallow. I remember the feeling to this day

Used to have these nasty things…for years! I would use a qtip, Bobby pin, hacking, finger etc. Solution…change your diet and address your allergies. Didn’t have the tonsils removed either. These things are so gross 🤢. Never knew how common this was.

I had a major problem with strep years ago. I actually thought this crap was strep at one point. I'd take a certain barrette I had and dig them out. Didn't last long, I had my tonsils removed when I found out I was pregnant in 91 at the age of 23. Not fun!! No more strep & healthy baby.

I can tell you one thing for sure. The tonsils being removed had no effect on not getting strep anymore. It was most likely your immune system getting stronger as you aged in early 20's compared to when you were younger and when women are pregnant, they have way stronger immune systems. My mom and brother have had tonsils removed and they still get strep more commonly than I do

Before I had my tonsils removed as an adult, I had some huge tonsils stones! Yellow to light green. Several were almost an inch wide, thick and absolutely smelled horrible! A doctor showed me how to express them and I did! When my tonsils were removed, each wad twice as large as they should have been and full of stones!

What is the percentage of people who have their tonsils removed today? My wife and 2 kids still have theirs. When I was young, 1970-75 it was a common procedure, maybe 25% Mine were perfectly healthy but I had chronic ear infections. The ENT removed my tonsils and adenoids with the hope of "clearing up" the infections. It didn't.

Now it is often done in adults and in the US, the 30% of surgeries are tonsillectomies but the criteria for the surgery has changed because if you're too young you'll have to be very sick to get the approval and in adults it's more common in young adults (20-30 years old) or teenagers.

My right side of of my throat is always unbearably itchy. My right ear often irritates me too. I ended up Googling online and found out after research and some investigation in my mouth that I have tonsil stones. I have been coughing up tonsil stones for as long as I can remember. And my throat was often itchy when I was younger, but I didn’t think anything of it, I just had a spoonful of honey because my mom had told me that’s what you do for a sore throat. I brush, floss, tongue scrape, and I use TheraBreath! Nothing works. Do you have any advice?

Never squeeze the tonsils you can damage them and make it worse, either use a special curved nose syringe to wash tonsil lacunas (when not inflamed), or gargle with 3% hydrogen peroxide diluted with water (1 portion of HP to 10 or 15 portions of water), do it twice a day for at least a week.

I had them. I sometimes could feel them in there and they had a terrible smell if I disturbed them. Every few months my tonsils would get sore. I eventually got tonsilitis and had to get them removed. If your tonsils have pockets like this, just get them removed. It's just a matter of time until they make you sick!

No. We are NOT supposed to have those "crypts". That's just like black heads and enlarged pores...we aren't supposed to have them. my mom( a doctor)told me i had this but so i searched i wondering what is was since i apparently didnt hesr her right i swear she said my tonsils were "crippled" 🤷‍♀️

I have always had very big tonsils. When I lay down in my back I can’t breath.

Thank Godness i dont have to worry about this, I dont have tonsils anymore. I had them removed because I had an abcess on one that almost killed me 😆
