My family taught me to give back and spread kindness, even when times are tough

Hand-me-downs I was given, I thought they were bought for me
Growing up with limited resources, I didn't realize that some of my possessions were secondhand

There are stark differences between different parts of the city that are often overlooked or misunderstood

People are only celebrated or acknowledged if they are successful or well-known

I tried that invincible shit, but the principle is
I tried to act tough and invincible, but it wasn't sustainable or realistic

When there's niggas defendin' your wig, then it's a pendulum shift
When you have others protecting or looking out for you, it changes the dynamic of a situation

I tried to spend a lil' less like a minimalist
I tried to simplify my life and live with less

But then I can confess that this gets harder the bigger you get
As you become more successful and have more resources, it can be harder to maintain a simple lifestyle
