In the Time of Abaddon II
Sabbath Assembly Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sacrifist: This is the Prophecy of the End.
The Gods are with us. Christ is among us.
As herald of the Time, a wave of pain and suffering
sweeps the earth from end to end.
And fear is growing in the hearts of men.

Assembly: And we shall conquer fear with love.
Sacrifist: And there are wars and rumors of wars.
And nation rises against nation,
and kingdom against kingdom.
And there are famines and pestilences and earthquakes.
And blood flows in the streets of the cities.
And the Angel of Death has descended
upon the world of men.
And Death stalks the earth.
And men stand in fear and trembling before
the inexorable onslaught.
And the earth shakes beneath the relentless
fury of the cataclysms.
And the battle of the Armageddon is joined.
And the mighty Fiend is released from Hell.
And fire sweeps across the face of the land to devour it.
And Disaster is in every corner of the earth.
And Love shall triumph.

Assembly: And the world shall be reborn, in Love.

+++++++++

For God shall sound His mighty voice:

“Behold the one whom I created
Has transgressed from my commandments
He has eaten from the tree of life
And brought injury to all mankind

Abaddon, I make you king of him
For you did bring him to me
And your name shall be a source of terror
And the mouth of every man shall call you

Abaddon, Angel of Death.”

Abaddon, I believe in you.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sabbath Assembly's song, In the Time of Abaddon II, speak of a prophecy of the end times. The Sacrifist speaks of pain and suffering sweeping the earth, causing fear to grow in the hearts of men. Wars, famines, pestilences, and earthquakes are occurring, and the Angel of Death has descended upon the world. The mighty Fiend is released from Hell, and fire sweeps across the land to devour it. However, throughout all of this chaos, the Assembly believes that love shall triumph and the world shall be reborn in love.

The Sacrifist speaks of the battle of Armageddon, where the earth shakes beneath the relentless fury of the cataclysms. Men stand in fear and trembling before the inexorable onslaught, and death stalks the earth. The Sacrifist believes that love shall conquer fear and that the Assembly shall triumph in the end. The Assembly speaks of the rebirth of the world in love, even as the Sacrifist speaks of the prophecy.

The overall message of the song seems to be that even in the worst of times, love and triumph can still come through. The lyrics speak of the fear and chaos that come with the end of the world, but they also speak of the power of love to overcome it all. The lyrical contrast between the Sacrifist's prophecy and the Assembly's faith highlights the beauty in fearlessness and the ultimate victory of love over fear.

Sabbath Assembly é uma das melhores bandas que eu ouvi nos ultimos tempos. É uma pena que dificilmente eles venham fazer shows no Brasil.

Jex will be missed, but I recognize that Ye are gods is such a great album. I love the neo folk influences and its thematic, as the Sacrifist's speech.

For those wondering (like I was), Jex left Sabbath shortly before the recording of this album to focus on her solo material. That being said, I definitely agree that Restored To One was the stronger album, but Ye Are Gods has grown on me, particularly the part Genesis P-Orridge plays. Jamie Meyers is a great vocalist, but something about Jex's performance on the last record just really stands out. I like Jamie, but I miss Jex.

Pity that Jex left the band but Jamie Myers sounds great too. I think her voice fits in very well.

although i deeply worship jex as well, i find ms. myers more fitting to this vision, kind of different perspective so to say. i'd love to see them both live in this shape though! as for the next jex thoth album... i REALLY hope there's REALLY something to wait for! if you know anything please deliver it to the world ;)

great call - I like what I'm hearing...it's not that I dislike this, it's quite interesting....but I can never work out whether this kind of thing, or the Alex Sanders Witch LP I own, or Aleister Crowley and his various connections (all of which are intriguing) are not , in fact, some enormous joke.... it's rather hard to take seriously. But the imagery is terrific.

I was so entranced listening to this I forgot I was cooking food next thing I know there is smoke billowing from the cooker "oh deary me I thinks i best do something about that smell and sight and turn the cooker off for I was in for a short time a state of fright"

hugobear1

me too... I love the imagery

Michael Röhm

I love Jex too, but this is a great album. Don't hate on Jamie Myers just because she isn't Jex, it's not a "knock off," it's an excellent album.
