"This one took the longest to get right. At this age, it’s really, really hard to accept anything that’s out of your control, at least for me, to be like, “Why can’t it just be the way that I want it to be in my head?” Being hard on myself and blaming myself for the entirety of the situation that I was going through. It’s so funny listening to this song now. I’m literally gonna cry. I hope for the rest of my life, I can use this song as a compass to guide me: “You are past the point of asking questions and asking whys and asking hows. It just is what it is.” Sometimes you need to just accept that statement. There’s a lot of power in being like, “I’m not going to look back anymore, I’m not going to question and I’m not going to wonder why. I’m just gonna allow it to be what it was and know that it was meant to happen.”"

Sabrina Carpenter Lyrics

You're good at the giving too much then getting scared
You're good at impersonating someone who cares
And you had me for a minute there
But now I wonder why
I let your confusion keep me up at night
I'm so tired
Over analyzed it
Front, back and beside it
Where else can we go?
There's nothing left here to decode
Done lookin' for signs in
The gaps and the silence
It's just getting old
There's nothing left here to decode
Mmh
There's a weight off my shoulders now that I don't chase you
Being myself, did that emasculate you?
Learning from you that I can walk away too
And you had me for a minute too
But now I wonder why
I let your indecision keep me up at night
I'm so tired
Unpacked every single word you wrote and I
Over analyzed it
Front back and beside it
Where else can we go?
There's nothing left here to decode
Done lookin' for signs in
The gaps and the silence
It's just getting old
There's nothing left here to decode
Mmh
There's nothing left here to decode
Mmh
Now I wonder why
I let your confusion keep me up at night
I'm so tired
Re-read every single undertone and I
Over analyzed it
Front, back and beside it
Where else can I go?
There's nothing left here to decode
Done lookin' for signs in
The gaps and the silence
It's just getting old
There's nothing left here to decode
There's nothing, there's nothing
There's nothing
There's nothing left here to decode
There's nothing, there's nothing
There's nothing
There's nothing left here to decode
I wanna make a video to our future selves
In "Decode," Sabrina Carpenter sings about the end of a confusing and tumultuous relationship. She addresses her former partner, noting that while they were good at falling in love and giving themselves fully to one another, they were not good at staying together. She expresses frustration with his tendency to act like he cares when he really doesn't, and with her own past inability to recognize and break free from the cycle of their dysfunctional relationship. In the chorus, Carpenter declares that she is finished searching for hidden meanings and clues that might provide insight into their feelings for each other; there is nothing left here to decode. The song ends with a sense of resolve and liberation as Carpenter declares that she is done with the relationship and wants to move forward, possibly by creating a video message to her future self.

@kylahearts213
i like that this is the last song on the album because we all know everyone is running to listen so they’re able to decode all the lyrics and feed into the new gossip of this “love triangle” thing. But now…she’s closing this chapter, probably won’t be writing about him or this situation anymore, so there’s nothing left to decode after this. It’s the end.
Beautiful way to end the album.

That is a beautiful way to say it. The unspoken message of this song really does deliver a sense of closure, to me at least. I think this might be my favorite song off this album.
