Shadow From Mordor
Sacrilege Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Like the shadow from Mordor, creeping slowly forward,
Unleashed from it's sanctuary by the devil in man,
The world thrown into torm
Ent by their uncarping greed,
We stare into the face of death screaming to be freed.
Their control is complete, we the voiceless have none,
Beaten into defeat by the arm of the strong,
Now the shadow gets darker for they've stolen the sun,
And the sale of our earth has already begun.
Like Durins bane, rising of from the deep,
There is evil at work while the people do sleep,
As they plunder the earth, still we sit back and watch,
Their wrath consumes all that would stand in their path.
G: AT DEATH DOOR
The new day is dawning they start counting the dead,
The hard swollen bellies of the children not fed,
Their land dry and parched still they pray for the rain,
The massacre continuous yet again and again.
Year after year the lands ring deaths bell,
The children's blind eyes have a sad tale to tell,
Their limbs bent and twisted, their kinds hold no spark,
They're crying in vain for no light breaks the dark.
The land holds the hammer but mankind deals the blow,
Economics and pro
Fit before compassion we show,
Our excesses waste as the wealthy grow fat,

Rather than give to the needy they'll let the food rot.
At death door they stand, only suffering they know.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Sacrilege’s song "Shadow From Mordor" depict an apocalyptic view of the world’s future. The song alludes to J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings character, the shadow from Mordor, as a symbol of the devil within humanity, which has been released and is causing destruction and chaos. The world is in turmoil due to the uncarping greed of those in power, and the powerless civilians have no voice in the matter. The shadow is growing darker because the sun has been stolen, and the earth has already started being sold. The song further talks about how evil is at work while people are sleeping, and how humanity is plundering the earth without any regard for life.

The second verse talks about how the new day is dawning with the start of the dead count, as hunger and malnourishment have become a daily reality for children, and how the land is dry, and nothing is growing. The lyrics mention how the earth is ringing the death bell due to man’s greed, and how the children are suffering, and their spirits are broken, with no hope for a better future. The song further criticizes society for valuing profit above compassion, allowing the wealthy to grow fat while the needy suffer. At the death door, the suffering of the children is all they know.

Overall, the song's lyrics paint a picture of a world where humanity has lost its way, and the devil within all humans is running rampant, causing destruction and death.

One does not simply thrash one's way into Mordor

@LordNothing

I have more than 20 years listening to metal and never heard of this band. What an amazing jewel!
THIS IS JUST KILLER!!!!

@nicholasjennings6980

The UK anarcho crust scene was very exciting at that time. Used to go to gigs all the time back then.

@LordNothing

Cool, man! I have watched some videos of the era and is pretty amazing, all this crust punk scene really were a big influence on the late 80s Death Metal bands, especially the ones from UK (Napalm Death, Benediction, Bolt Thrower, etc.) Personally, I think that many of the "biographies" of the metal history, lack of the inclusion of this underground scene and its importance.

@dirtyprotest

they were never metal... but i know where your coming from...!!

@LordNothing

Yes, I think you got my point; they were punks with a very aggresive sound that influence the mid/late 80s bands that were both influenced by the harsher heavy metal and punk bands of the time. But just listen the solo at the 3:00 minute mark, that is undeniably metal influenced!
Anyway, punk, metal or whatever, this band is freakin awesome!

@brigade911

I'm no expert but this sounds totally heavy metal to me.

I had this back in 1985 and got nostalgic after the Hobbit movies came out. I was a thrash metalhead and I never knew what Mordor was. 25+years later I have been enlightened to the Tolkien ways.

@duncandeborle3697

Wake up! Listen and revolt. We need this more than ever. Great music, great lyrics and a good attitude. What the fuck happened the last decenia to the world. Hope Sacrilege will kick some good sense into our 'modern' world. Punk/thrash ain't dead, never will be.

@joshuagebhardt1781

My first metal tape was Sacrilege. I got the tape at Goodwill when I was 11 years old
