The band name was suggested by a friend of the band named Rick Rogers back in 1985. It was originally taken from the novel Dune where Sadus are judges. The Fremen title refers to holy judges, equivalent to saints. However, as stated by bassist Steve DiGiorgio: "He (Rogers) liked the sound of it and he said he could make it into a cool logo. So we chose it [...] it's not supposed to have a meaning as we don't stand for anything."
The group split up in 2015, but reformed 2 years later without DiGiorgio.

One bad seed
A different breed
A fucking freak
Dead, you're dead
Dead to me
From hate and lies
Your drama tells the tale
You'll burn yourself
Freaks
We are all freaks
Freaks
We will die freaks
Who are you to me
Not a fucking thing
Greedy piece of shit
You make me sick
You're fucked
Dead, fucking dead to me
I live with hate
Sadness and pain
Never be the same
You're the one to blame
You're the one to blame
You're the one
The lyrics of Sadus's song "Freak" are an expression of hatred, anger, and frustration towards someone who is perceived as a bad seed, a different breed, and a fucking freak. The singer questions the person's identity, asking "Who are you to me?" and makes it clear that the person is dead to them, burning inside from hate and lies. The drama that the person creates tells their own tale, and the singer predicts their eventual downfall, stating "You'll burn yourself."
The chorus of the song refers to everyone as freaks, emphasizing the idea that we are all different and unique in our own way. The singer acknowledges this fact but also suggests that we will die as freaks, implying that society will never fully accept us for who we are. The second verse of the song continues the feeling of animosity towards the person in question, stating that they are not even worth acknowledging, as they are "not a fucking thing" and a "greedy piece of shit" that makes the singer sick. The singer again reiterates that the person is dead to them, emphasizing this point even further by saying "You're fucked."
Overall, the song "Freak" by Sadus is a powerful expression of anger and frustration towards someone who is perceived as different and toxic. It speaks to the human experience of feeling like an outsider, and the idea that sometimes, society will never fully accept us for who we are.
