I’m a dreamer, a vintage lover.
When I believe I fight, when I love, I fall.
Making music feels right and it cures it all.
Growing up in West Africa was a blessing,
surrounded by the naturals,
the ones who sing and dance through life,
fighting for survival.
While my mother choreographed to the sounds of the world,
the curtain would rise to a round of applause.
On that stage it was, the beginning of it all.
Never drifted away far from reality
for the smell of wood kept my feet to the ground
As I loved to wander about in my dad’s factory.
I wasn’t told to go globe-trot in life nor did I plan.
Though it happened.
Soon, far were the memories of the burning sand under my feet
As the French winters saw me closing in,
looking for a place to fit in.
With Hip-Hop and Soul, I found the bond.
Music and dance have no frontiers.
I then decided neither would I.
The dream took me all the way to Hollywood.
For the first time in my life,
I wasn’t a color, nor a name. I was a blend.
And there was my strength.
Enrolled at Musician Institute , I found my voice,
mingling with musicians from all over the world,
singing pop, jazz, funk, and reggae, acting and singing,
meeting all kinds of interesting and inspiring people.
Although the Hollywood craze did not fool me,
my wandering soul needed some deep roots to reconnect with.
That was the Lebanese call.
Off to Beirut for a vacation that turned into an extended journey.
Among those years of discovery, I wrote “THE QUEST”.
Draw the Line
Sae Lis' Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I’m stumbling down
A hint of your undmindfulness
I’m running away for the best
Putting up a wall
Not to keep you out
But to see if you care enough to break it down
Where do we finally draw the line
Between the love and hate i fall behind
And if we finally draw the line
Would we find our own peace of mind
Don’t under estimate
The power of this bond
It only takes a look in your eyes to understand
What’s really going on inside your head
Where do we finally draw the line
Between the love and hate i fall behind
And if we finally draw the line
Would we find our own peace of mind
Where do we finally draw the line
Between the love and hate i fall behind
(weyo weya weyo weya)
(where do we finally draw the line)
Between the love and hate i fall behind
(and if we,) and if we (finally draw the line)
Would we find our own peace of mind
(where do we,) where do we, (finally draw the line)
Finally draw the line, between the love and hate
(and if we,) and if we finally draw the line
Draw the line, draw the line
(where do we, finally draw the line..
And if we, finally draw the line…)
The lyrics of Sae Lis's song Draw the Line is about the complexities of love and relationships. The singer is unsure about where to draw the line between love and hate and is trying to navigate through these emotions. In the first verse, the singer talks about how even a little bit of love can make them feel weak and vulnerable, and a hint of indifference or mindlessness can make them want to run away. In the second verse, the singer puts up a wall not to keep the loved one out but to see if they care enough to break it down. The singer wants to test the strength of their bond with their partner, and if they care enough, they will break down the wall and prove their love.
The chorus talks about the ambiguity of drawing the line between love and hate. The singer is falling behind this line and is unsure about how to balance their emotions. They wonder if finally drawing the line would bring peace of mind to both of them. The bridge talks about not underestimating the power of their bond, and all it takes is a look in the eyes to understand what's going on inside their partner's head. The lyrics are heartfelt and emotive, and capture the complexities of love and relationships.
