I got this crazy idea, oh and it's crawling at the surface
why don't we drive all night and wake up in Loredo?
I wanna drive all night and wake up in Loredo
I got something to say, oh and its feelin like a secret.
I got something to say, woah and it slithers like a secret
I wanna drive all night and wake up another person.
Why don't we drive, drive, drive until nothing is for certain
Why don't we treat it like the real thing?
I got something to hide, oh and I know you're gonna find it.
I got this creature inside, oh and you know you're creepin up behind it.
Why don't you call my name like you did when you were lonely?
Why don't you shake me loose 'stead of tryin to run for me?
Why don't we treat it like the real thing?
Why don't we treat it like the real thing?
The road is real and I'm alone
Why don't we sing it like a real sweet song?
I got this crazy idea, woah and its burnin up inside me.
I got this crazy idea, noo it's goin to untie me.
I wanna drive all night and wake up with your warm skin.
Why don't we hold on tight and just let all the good in?
Why don't we treat it like a real thing?
Why don't we treat it like the real thing?
Yeah yeah
Why don't we treat it like the real thing?
Why don't we treat it like the real thing?
The lyrics of Sahara Smith's song The Real Thing showcase the singer's need for an adventure in life. She has a crazy idea, and it all feels like a circus. It is crawling at the surface and is threatening to erupt at any moment. She wants to drive all night and wake up in Loredo to become a new person. She has something to say, but it feels like a secret that slithers deep within her. She wants to reveal it and start anew as a completely different person.
The lyrics also highlight her need for someone to treat her feelings and emotions like the real thing. She has something to hide, but she knows that her partner will find it sooner or later. She wants her partner to call her name like he did when he was lonely and shake her loose instead of running from her. The singer urges her partner to treat their relationship like the real thing and not just a fleeting and temporary romance.
Overall, the lyrics of The Real Thing are about self-discovery, exploration, and the need for an authentic and genuine relationship. The singer wants to drive all night to start over and wants her partner to treat their relationship with utmost sincerity and honesty.

We shot this and the Thousand Secrets video in the same weekend. My dress was so short that I didn't even move during most of the band shots. In between takes, I spent most of the interim pulling it down. It was such a relief to shoot Thousand in long, flowing dresses.

We used to listen to her when she was in high school and sang at the little local coffee house in Wimberley. Knew she would move on up! :)
