The group's musical line-up incorporates such diverse instruments as mandolins, glockenspiels, accordion, military bass-drum, and the legendary Nickelodeon, an extraordinary instrument designed and built for the purpose of delivering Sailor's definitive sound.
Their first album, released in 1974, included the hit "Traffic Jam". The album achieved Gold status in Holland. But it was the second album "Trouble" that established Sailor throughout the world. "A Glass of Champagne" was a massive hit throughout the world in 1975, followed by "Girls Girls Girls" in 1976.
The original line-up changed regularly from the end of the 1970s. In 1980 Phil and Henry released a new album together with Gavin David and Virginia David. In 1989 a new album was released after a ten year silence, featuring two singles "The Secretary" and "La Cumbia", so after a long gap they went back on tour again. In 1995 Georg Kajanus departed the band to pursue a solo career, leading to the introduction of Peter Lincoln, a respected guitarist and singer. Original member Henry Marsh left the band in late 1999, to be replaced by Anthony England. He was replaced in turn by Rob Alderton in 2001.
In 2004 Sailor were voted the 45th most successful pop band of the last 40 years in Germany.
In July 2005 Rob Alderton departed, but a few weeks later, original member Henry Marsh returned to his place at the Nickelodeon. In 2006 Peter Lincoln decided to leave after ten years to join The Sweet. Afterwards, Henry's son Oliver Marsh joined the band as their new singer to continue the journey...

Sailor Lyrics

Long have I been waiting for you
Would I allow
People to talk to me like I'm small
Had it been then
You could have stripped me down to nothing
A new woman, told me not to feel burdened by a prick
I wanna be that bitch
I wanna be that bitch
Claiming space and taking it yeah
I wanna be that bitch
Head up like a man
I wanna be that bitch, yeah
She's so coy
When she's looking in the mirror
The world's her toy
Just like a puppet on a string
Don't retract
Say no, it's just a tease
Learn how to act
Don't be such a people pleaser
I wanna be that bitch
They're wrapped around my fingertips yeah
I wanna be that bitch
Claiming space and taking it yeah
I wanna be that bitch
Head up like a man
I wanna be that bitch, yeah
Yeah
The lyrics of Sailor's song "Girls" focus on the idea of female empowerment and the desire to take control of one's life. The first verse talks about waiting for someone and not allowing others to belittle them. The second verse encourages women to not be afraid to take up space and to stop trying to please others. The chorus is a declaration of the desire to be a powerful woman who has control over her life and the people around her. The phrase "I wanna be that bitch" is used repeatedly, but not as a derogatory term. Instead, it's used as a term of empowerment with the lyrics suggesting that being assertive and taking control is something to be admired.
The first verse of the song talks about waiting for someone and not allowing them to treat you poorly. The lyrics suggest that the singer has been waiting for this person for a long time, but that they would not allow them to talk down to them or treat them poorly. This can be interpreted as a metaphor for life in general, with the idea being that one should not allow others to treat them poorly or make them feel small.
The second verse is a call to action, with the singer encouraging women to stop trying to please others and to take up space in the world. The lyrics suggest that women should not be afraid to be assertive and should not worry about being seen as a tease. This could be interpreted as a critique of societal norms that expect women to be submissive and passive.
Overall, the message of the song is one of female empowerment and the desire to take control of one's life. The lyrics suggest that women should not be afraid to be assertive and should not worry about being seen as too aggressive or bossy. Instead, they should embrace their power and take control of their lives and the people around them.
