Saint Asonia came into being when Staind guitarist Mike Mushok and Three Days Grace frontman Adam Gontier began writing together just after the latter split with his flagship band. Impressed with what they had managed to conjure up, the duo enlisted Eye Empire bassist Corey Lowery, and former Finger Eleven drummer Rich Beddoe to complete their initial lineup. Heading into the studio with producer Johnny K (Disturbed, Megadeth, Sevendust), the quartet began work on their debut long-player. Released in July 2015, the eponymous full-length Saint Asonia resembled the sum of its parts and was a success both at home, where it reached the Canadian Top Ten, and in the U.S., where it made a solid showing at number 29 on the Billboard 200.
Prior to their next release, Saint Asonia swapped out their rhythm section, with former Staind drummer Sal Giancarelli replacing Beddoe and Art of Dying bassist Cale Gontier (who is also Adam Gontier's cousin) replacing Lowery. With their second lineup settled, the group recorded their 2019 follow-up, Flawed Design, for the Spinefarm label.

But she had no interest
In seeing me or my face again
Feels like a bullet in my chest
Now I'm leaving Minnesota
Would have been nice to see ya
In the middle of self-realization you lost me along the way
But I've got nowhere to go
In the middle of self-realization you lost me along the way
Me along the way
I heard you cried when you spoke of me
I can't help but think it's all a lie
Like they say, if you love something
Let it free
And let it fly
Now I'm leaving Minnesota
Would have been nice to see ya
In the middle of self-realization you lost me along the way
Now I'm leaving Minnesota
But I've got nowhere to go yea,
In the middle of self-realization you lost me along the way
Me along the way
Lost me along the way
Lost me along the way
Now I'm leaving Minnesota
Would have been nice to have seen ya
In the middle of self-realization you lost me along the way
Now I'm leaving Minnesota
But I've got nowhere to go
In the middle of self-realization you've lost me along the way
You've lost me along the way
The song "Leaving Minnesota" by Saint Asonia is a heartfelt ballad about a failed relationship. The singer expresses his frustration at how much effort he put into the relationship, only to have the other person show no interest in him. The line "Feels like a bullet in my chest" suggests that he's devastated by the rejection.
He then goes on to say that he's leaving Minnesota, where the relationship presumably took place. He expresses regret at not being able to see the other person one last time, saying "Would have been nice to see ya." However, he also acknowledges that he has nowhere to go - perhaps hinting that he's running away from his problems.
The next verse reveals that the other person cried when they talked about the singer. He wonders if it's all a lie, and then references the old saying "if you love something, let it free and let it fly." It seems as though the singer has come to terms with the fact that the relationship is over, and is now just trying to move on.
Overall, "Leaving Minnesota" is a poignant song about the pain of unrequited love and the struggle to move on from it.
