Saint Asonia came into being when Staind guitarist Mike Mushok and Three Days Grace frontman Adam Gontier began writing together just after the latter split with his flagship band. Impressed with what they had managed to conjure up, the duo enlisted Eye Empire bassist Corey Lowery, and former Finger Eleven drummer Rich Beddoe to complete their initial lineup. Heading into the studio with producer Johnny K (Disturbed, Megadeth, Sevendust), the quartet began work on their debut long-player. Released in July 2015, the eponymous full-length Saint Asonia resembled the sum of its parts and was a success both at home, where it reached the Canadian Top Ten, and in the U.S., where it made a solid showing at number 29 on the Billboard 200.
Prior to their next release, Saint Asonia swapped out their rhythm section, with former Staind drummer Sal Giancarelli replacing Beddoe and Art of Dying bassist Cale Gontier (who is also Adam Gontier's cousin) replacing Lowery. With their second lineup settled, the group recorded their 2019 follow-up, Flawed Design, for the Spinefarm label.
Trying to Catch Up With the World

He knew he had a choice
He always startled easily
With the sound of every voice
A pocket full of excess
They take and take and take
He left 'em with a trigger pointed
Staring at his shakes
And it goes on
It goes on
She was given nothing
But their selfish lack
They sleep with one eye open
Because they know she's coming back
But she will wait her turn
Absent from concern
The furnace that's inside her
It burns and burns and burns
And it goes on
It goes on
Weaklings never practice
What they preach
They cower down below
That's what they call defeat
And in their darkest hour
Its hard to breathe
We try to catch up with the world
But we're so far out of reach
We're so far out of reach
Leaning in the dark
Stands this faked man
Slicing her with her words
Always grabbing her with his hand
And it goes on, on
It goes on
Weaklings never practice
What they preach
They cower down below
That's what they call defeat
And in their darkest hour
Its hard to breathe
We try to catch up with the world
But we're so far out of reach
We're so far out of reach
I wish i had of warned you
Of this broken path
With each step you take
You know there's no turning back
Weaklings never practice
What they preach
They cower down below
That's what they call defeat
And in their darkest hour
Its hard to breathe
We try to catch up with the world
But we're so far out of reach
We try to catch up with the world
We try to catch up with the world
We try to catch up with the world
But we're so far out of reach
We try to catch up with the world
We try to catch up with the world
We try to catch up with the world
But we're so far out of reach
The lyrics of Saint Asonia's song "Trying to Catch Up With the World" tell a story of two individuals, Sam and a young woman, who are struggling to cope with the pressures of the world. The song highlights the struggles of people who feel left behind by society and unable to catch up. Sam is presented as a weak individual who is easily intimidated by others and finds himself trapped in a cycle of excess, where people take advantage of his weaknesses. The young woman, on the other hand, is portrayed as a fierce individual who will not be held back by those who stand in her way.

The lyrics suggest that these individuals are often judged for their weaknesses and are left to suffer in silence. The chorus of the song emphasizes the feelings of despair and hopelessness, as the characters try and fail to keep up with the world around them.

Sam the weak accomplice, he knew he had a choice
He always startled easily
