Saint Asonia came into being when Staind guitarist Mike Mushok and Three Days Grace frontman Adam Gontier began writing together just after the latter split with his flagship band. Impressed with what they had managed to conjure up, the duo enlisted Eye Empire bassist Corey Lowery, and former Finger Eleven drummer Rich Beddoe to complete their initial lineup. Heading into the studio with producer Johnny K (Disturbed, Megadeth, Sevendust), the quartet began work on their debut long-player. Released in July 2015, the eponymous full-length Saint Asonia resembled the sum of its parts and was a success both at home, where it reached the Canadian Top Ten, and in the U.S., where it made a solid showing at number 29 on the Billboard 200.
Prior to their next release, Saint Asonia swapped out their rhythm section, with former Staind drummer Sal Giancarelli replacing Beddoe and Art of Dying bassist Cale Gontier (who is also Adam Gontier's cousin) replacing Lowery. With their second lineup settled, the group recorded their 2019 follow-up, Flawed Design, for the Spinefarm label.
Waste My Time

Like we're the only one that see
The sky above us falling down
And breathe in my ear
Like we're the only one to hear
The mountains crashing down
I have wasted most of my life
But let me sing to you
Just sit here don't move
I just want to waste some time with you
So take my hand
I don't understand
How they kept us apart for so long
And smile so I can see
That it's really you in front of me
'Cause that's still so hard to believe
I have wasted most of my life
Playing games that I knew I'd lose
Let me sing to you
Just sit here don't move
I just want to waste some time with you
Forcing back the tears
Over all the years
Boarding up the door
Throw my hope to the floor
I could not forget now it all makes sense
That your here with me
And I never ever want to leave
I would have wasted most of my life
Never even though with you
Now you sing to me and I still don't believe
That you wanna waste some time with me
Let me sing to you
Just sit here don't move
I just wanna waste some time with you
And now you sing to me and I still don't believe
That you wanna waste some time with me
In Saint Asonia's song Waste My Time, the lyrics are a beautiful representation of love and the desire to spend time with someone special. The opening lines "Hold onto me like we're the only one that can see/ The sky above us falling down/ And breathe in my ear like we're the only one to hear/ The mountains crashing down" suggest a deep sense of connection between the two people. It's like they possess a shared understanding and the world around them could be falling apart, but they are steadfastly held together by each other's love.
The lines "I have wasted most of my life/ Playing games that I knew I'd lose/ But let me sing to you/ Just sit here don't move/ I just want to waste some time with you" indicate that the person singing the song has already spent a significant amount of their life playing games, probably pertaining to their past relationships, always knowing that they would lose. But now that they have found someone truly special, they want to spend as much time with that person as possible before it's too late. The lines "Forcing back the tears/ Over all the years/ Boarding up the door/ Throw my hope to the floor/ I could not forget now it all makes sense/ That you're here with me/ And I never ever want to leave" suggest that the singer was hurt and jaded by past relationships, and it wasn't until this person came into their life that they realized everything happened for a reason, and they were meant to be together.
Overall, the lyrics of Waste My Time explore the idea of the beauty of love, finding someone special and the desire to spend time with that person despite the circumstances.

Hold onto me
Stay close to me and don't let go
Like we're the only one that see
As if we are the only ones witnessing what is happening
The sky above us falling down
The world around us is collapsing
And breathe in my ear
Whisper sweet nothings to me
Like we're the only one to hear
As if no one else can hear what we are saying
The mountains crashing down
The world as we know it is ending
I have wasted most of my life
I have spent a lot of time on meaningless things
Playing games that I knew I'd lose
Engaging in activities with no chance of success
But let me sing to you
Let me express my feelings through song
Just sit here don't move
Stay with me and don't go anywhere
I just want to waste some time with you
I just want to spend some time with you, even if it is unproductive
So take my hand
Hold my hand and come with me
I don't understand
I am confused
How they kept us apart for so long
I am surprised we haven't been together sooner
And smile so I can see
Smile, so I can understand that it's really you
That it's really you in front of me
I am having trouble believing that I am actually with you
'Cause that's still so hard to believe
I am still struggling to comprehend the reality of the situation
Forcing back the tears
Trying to hold back tears
Over all the years
Reflecting on the past
Boarding up the door
Closing myself off emotionally
Throw my hope to the floor
Giving up on hope
I could not forget now it all makes sense
I can't forget what has happened, but now it all seems clear
That your here with me
That you are here with me now
And I never ever want to leave
I want to stay here with you forever
Now you sing to me and I still don't believe
Even as you sing to me, I still can't believe you want to be with me
That you wanna waste some time with me
That you want to spend time with me, even if it is unproductive
