Soul on Fire
Saint Jude Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Dressed to the nines, drinking cheap wine,
it feels so good she does it all the time.
Ruby red lips, stained finger tips,
Nothing else matters when she's shaking her hips

She doesn't remember a thing
Doesn't even know with who or where she's been
Soul on fire
She never sleeps
Dancing with angels
Her secrets they keep
No one listens, but I hear her shout
A soul on fire
Is something that you can't put out.

Waking up late, place in a state,
doesn't even have a name to put to his face.
Barely sixteen, oh, what she's seen
So many lies she don't know what to believe.

She doesn't remember a thing
Doesn't even know with who or where she's been

Soul on fire
She never sleeps
Dancing with angels
Her secrets they keep
No one listens, but I hear her shout

A soul on fire
Is something that you can't put out.

Overall Meaning

The song "Soul On Fire" by Saint Jude tells the story of two individuals whose lives have spiraled down into a chaotic mess. The first verse speaks of a woman who is always dressed in her best and is continuously drinking cheap wine, which has left her in a state of constant intoxication. For her, nothing else matters except for the pleasure she derives from dancing and shaking her hips. However, she is unaware of her surroundings, and the people with whom she associates. She lives a life without purpose as she feels satisfied by the fleeting moments of pleasure.

The second verse is about a young man who is waking up from a night of excess without any memories of his actions. He is so caught up in the lies and deceit he has experienced that he is no longer sure what is true or false. Like the woman, he has become trapped in a never-ending cycle of reckless behavior, alcohol consumption, and self-destructive tendencies. Their lives seem hopeless, yet the chorus describes how they have managed to hold onto a flame that still burns within them. They still have a soul on fire that refuses to be extinguished.

Overall, "Soul On Fire" is a song about two people struggling to find their way out of a complicated and destructive lifestyle. While their lives may appear to be out of control, their soul's fire still burns deep within, offering hope for redemption and a chance at a better life.

Hi

@GrantStoke

Saw these last night in Birmingham and they were unbelievable.Brilliant band who thoroughly deserve worldwide success, being selfish you would want them playing intimate gigs forever however you realise you are denying the world a supreme talent. Lynne is mesmorising with an incredible vocal talent but the rest of the band are really tight, the addition of rhythmn guitar was needed and the new songs on first listen sounded excellent.Spread the word!!
