RISE
Salamandra Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I commit to no direction
I won't break down into weakness
If it feels good, it's a sickness
I won't give up until the blood soaks my fingers
I recognize that the difference is my spirit
The reflection in the mirror
Is the vision any clearer
Though it may seem that i'm angry
Your reaction is what makes me
I won't give up until the blood soaks my fingers
I recognize that the difference is my spirit
Rise up in the fold -- i'm saved
The lyrics to Salamandra's song Rise convey a message of self-determination and resilience. The singer is "defensive" and unyielding, committed to her own independent path and uninterested in direction from external sources. She sees weakness as something to be avoided and feels that indulging in pleasure can be a "sickness" - perhaps hinting at some inner struggle or pain that she is grappling with. Despite all of this, she is determined to push herself to her limits - even to the point of violence or harm - in order to prove her strength and "spirit."
The chorus, "Rise up in the fold -- I'm saved," seems to suggest that this is a religious or spiritual undertaking for the singer. The music itself is intense and driving, with powerful guitar riffs and pounding drums. The verses contain a fair amount of repetition, with a few abstract phrases that may be open to interpretation (such as "the difference is my spirit"), but the overall message of perseverance and inner strength comes through loud and clear.
