Blood
Salem Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Red blood, bad blood, cold blood, sad blood
Bloody all the way.
Blue blood, pure blood, mud blood, come blood
Wash blood stains away.
Draw blood, no blood, young blood, dried blood,
Snow blood, hot blood, you drew first blood.

Your drew first blood,
Having no victim, I find it odd.

(They say that blood is thicker then water,
I say that shit is thicker than blood.
You kept your word to the other world
So now we bleed and die.)

You kept your word to the other world,
It was a blast you didn't last

(Blood signed odium.
Manufacture mutated revulsion
But he who swore to live by the sword,
His blood will spill forever more.)

You kept your word to the other world
It was a blast you didn't last.
To see the day the prophets say
Armageddon call to end it all.

Open the gates of hell!

Red blood, bad blood, cold blood, sad blood
Bloody all the way.
Blue blood, pure blood, mud blood, come blood
Wash blood stains away.

Draw blood, no blood, young blood, dried blood,
Snow blood, hot blood, you drew first blood.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Salem's song Blood are a mix of aggression and reflection on the nature of bloodshed. The first stanza consists of almost contradictory phrases such as "pure blood" and "come blood" which could be interpreted as a commentary on the human tendency to divide and classify others based on their race, ethnicity, or social status - instilling a sense of 'us vs them.' The line "wash blood stains away" implies some form of regret or guilt that lingers after violence. The second stanza seems to address an individual who has brought bloodshed upon themselves as a result of their own actions. The line "you drew first blood, having no victim, I find it odd" may be questioning the perpetrator's motives and suggesting that they have brought this cycle of violence upon themselves.

The third and fourth stanzas are more specific in their criticism of those who live by the sword. The line "blood-signed odium, manufacture mutated revulsion" seems to be pointing out that those who engage in violence have a certain malice and hatred ingrained within them, leading them to create destructive and repulsive acts that only bring more pain and suffering into the world. The following lines "But he who swore to live by the sword, his blood will spill forever more" imply that those who engage in violence will ultimately face a violent end themselves, as the cycle of violence never truly ends. The song ends with a call to apocalypse, painting a bleak picture of a world where violence and bloodshed have become the norm.

I loved this band when I was younger. my cousin gave me a burned CD of some recordings . a few days ago I saw a sticker that said SALEM and underneath there were tiny Hebrew letters, it was so awesome, I doubt if any of the passersby would let the sticker stay there if they knew where the band was from. anyway, I had to listen to them again, great stuff.
