L'Skadrille:

REFRAIN:
Nou Pas Bouger
Moi je bouge pas non
S'il faut je bouge pas
Moi je bouge pas non
Ne me touche pas
Nou Pas Bouger
Non non non non non non
Nou Pas Bouger

Salif: Aliman kele min bele toubaboulukan, farafin nin tolu oro o te ban
Alu fa ka kele te alu ba ka kele te tolu oro o te ban

Nou Pas Bouger, Nou Pas Bouger

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Salif Keita's song, "Nou Pas Bouger," speak to themes of displacement, inequality, and resistance. The song begins with a call-out to Salif Keita himself, with L'Skadrille referencing Keita's Malian and Senegalese heritage and stating that they will not move. The chorus repeats the phrase "Nou Pas Bouger," which translates to "We won't move," emphasizing their resolve to stay and fight for their rights.

Salif Keita then sings in Bambara, a language widely spoken in West Africa, about the suffering of Black people during the time of slavery. L'Skadrille picks up the theme, rapping about their experiences being chased out of churches and forced to return to their countries on charter flights. They speak of the divide between "red earth" and "grey earth," alluding to the racial and cultural divides that still exist.

The song continues with calls for justice and reparations for the exploitation of their countries by European nations. L'Skadrille raps about being an immigrant in France and demanding to be given back what was taken before they were granted independence. They also mention the importance of taking vengeance for the injustices done to them and their desire for a piece of the financial pie.

In conclusion, "Nou Pas Bouger" is a powerful protest song that speaks to the ongoing struggle against oppression and inequality.
