Her music is inspired by the traditions of her home country. She plays bikutsi music among other genres and sometimes sings in endangered languages. She used to be a member of the group Zap Mama. She won the Radio France International World Music award in 1997, and since then her popularity has grown. She is one of the most famous singers from Cameroon.

Bonjour Massan Pissam, d'après ce dont je me souviens Mamterry était une grande chanteuse traditionnelle de son village quand elle était enfant (il me semble même que c'était sa grand mère, d'après la déclinaison d'identité qu'elle fait au début de la chanson min 0:16 à 0:22 = "me ne ngoan a lale ngoane bekoe ya be nga wè m'a wé, me ne va minga' Eyen Meyong ya be nga bà m'a wé". En sachant que Sally est d'Eyen Meyong dans la Lékié, il est fort probable que ce soit sa grand-mère qui était par ailleurs grande chanteuse traditionnelle). Cette chanson a été composée en son honneur. Dans le refrain elle ne dit pas Mamterry, mais "Hé mâ nga Tara oo", "Hum mâ nga Tara ééé". Tu comprends l' Eton je suppose...
