Hot, Cool & Vicious received little attention until a San Francisco DJ named Cameron Paul created a remix of "Push It" (The b-side to "Tramp"). Mr. Paul's remix of "Push It", rereleased as a single, quickly became a national hit and was nominated for a Grammy, pushing both the single and LP to Platinum album status.
They released A Salt With a Deadly Pepa, which was only a minor hit, though it featured "Shake Your Thang". Their third original LP, Blacks Magic, which received generally positive reviews and expanded Salt-N-Pepa's fanbase among hip hop fans using more R&B. It included "Let's Talk About Sex", one of their biggest songs.
Salt-N-Pepa left Next Plateau and the influence of Azor released "Very Necessary", a largely self-produced album in 1993 (see 1993 in music), and it performed very well on the charts, buoyed by "Shoop" and "Whatta Man" (with En Vogue). In 1994, they appeared in the motion picture "Who's The Man?".
The less commercially successful single "None of Your Business," won the Grammy for Best Rap Performance in 1995. Since Very Necessary, both Salt and Pepa have focused primarily on their acting careers. They released their final album "Brand New" in 1997.
Despite their girl group beginnings, Salt-N-Pepa insist that they wrote many of the lyrics on their first album, and by Blacks Magic they displayed a sex positive, and responsible, feminism, and are often seen as innovators or role models.
In March 1999, Salt-N-Pepa embarked on their final live tour. Pepa (Sandy Denton) married Treach of Naughty By Nature on July 27, 1999. Salt-N-Pepa's greatest-hits album, entitled Salt-N-Pepa: The Best Of was released on January 25, 2000. Treach and Pepa were divorced on July 31, 2001. The group officially disbanded in 2002. Upon disbanding, Salt (Cheryl James) claimed she had become a born-again Christian, and would no longer be involved in hip-hop. However, all that changed when Cheryl announced that she would be releasing her first solo cd "Salt of the Earth" which later changed to "Salt Unrapped".
Cheryl James and Sandy Denton appeared on VH1's Hip Hop Honors in November 2004 without Spinderella. They did not perform.
In March 2005, it was announced that Sandy Denton would join Jose Canseco, Bronson Pinchot, Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth, Caprice Bourret, Janice Dickinson, and Carey Hart on the 5th season of the VH1 series The Surreal Life.
Salt-N-Pepa reunited on September 22, 2005, and gave their first performance in six years. They sang Whatta Man, along with En Vogue, as a part of VH1's Hip Hop Honors program.

Ooh, how you doin', baby?
No, not you
You, the bow-legged one, yeah
What's your name?
Damn, that sounds sexy, uh
Here I go, here I go, here I go again (again?)
Girls, what's my weakness? (Men!)
Okay then, chillin', chillin'
Mindin' my business (word)
Yo, Salt, I looked around, and I couldn't believe this
I swear, I stared, my niece my witness
The brother had it goin' on with somethin' kinda, uh
Wicked, wicked (ooh) had to kick it
I'm not shy, so I asked for the digits
A ho? No, that don't make me
See what I want slip slide to it swifty
Felt it in my hips so I dipped back to my bag of tricks
Then I flipped for a tip, make me wanna do tricks for him
Lick him like a lollipop should be licked
Came to my senses and I chilled for a bit
Don't know how you do the voodoo that you do
So well, it's a spell, hell, makes me wanna shoop, shoop, shoop
Shoop, shoop ba-doop, shoop ba-doop
Shoop ba-doop, ba-doop, ba-doop
Shoop ba-doop, shoop ba-doop
Shoop ba-doop, ba-doop, ba-doop
Umm, you're packed and you're stacked 'specially in the back
Brother, wanna thank your mother for a butt like that (thanks, Mom)
Can I get some fries with that shake-shake boobie?
If looks could kill you would be an uzi
Or a shotgun, bang! What's up with that thang?
I wanna know how does it hang?
Straight up, wait up, hold up, Mr. Lover
Like Prince said you're a sexy motha well-a
I like 'em real wild, b-boy style by the mile
Smooth black skin with a smile
Bright as the sun, I wanna have some fun
Come and give me some of that yum-yum
Chocolate chip, honey dip, can I get a scoop?
Baby, take a ride in my coupe, you make me wanna
Shoop, shoop ba-doop, shoop ba-doop (baby, hey)
Shoop ba-doop, ba-doop, ba-doop
Shoop ba-doop, shoop ba-doop
(Don't you know I wanna shoop, baby)
Shoop ba-doop, ba-doop, ba-doop
Shoop, shoop ba-doop, shoop ba-doop
Shoop ba-doop, ba-doop, ba-doop
Shoop ba-doop, shoop ba-doop
Shoop ba-doop, ba-doop, ba-doop

The lyrics to Salt-N-Pepa's song "Shoop" are about a confident and sexually empowered woman who is not afraid to express her attraction to a man she finds desirable. In the first verse, the woman asks the bow-legged man for his name and finds it sexy. She is not shy and asks for his number. In the chorus, she repeats, "shoop ba-doop," which could be interpreted as a sultry and flirtatious sound.
In the second verse, the woman compliments the man's physique, especially his attractive backside. She wants to know more about him and asks how he hangs. She wants to have fun with him and enjoy the pleasures of his company. In the third verse, Salt-N-Pepa join in and hype up the woman's confidence and desire for the man. They encourage her to keep going for what she wants.
Overall, "Shoop" is an upbeat, fun song about a confident woman expressing her attraction to a man she desires. It promotes female sexuality and empowerment and is a classic song from the 90s.
