So
Salt Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So, could you declare
the things I'm saying?
To me those terms won't fade

So, will the picture
of your mind remain?
To me those frames will be
Some kind of tenderness
in your laughter
Some kind of tenderness
in your face

So, you see a friend
behind your shoulder
To you those shades won't fade

So, will the time

you met stick with me?
To me those days will be...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "So" by Salt primarily talks about memories and the weight that they hold over the singer. The singer is reminiscing about past events and moments that have made an impact on them, and they wonder if those memories will hold the same value for the people who were a part of those moments. The first two lines ask if the things the singer is saying hold any value or if they will just be forgotten over time. The next two lines question whether the memory of the moment that the singer is thinking of will hold the same meaning for the other people who were involved in the same moment. The chorus of the song highlights the emotion the singer is feeling, with the lines "Some kind of tenderness in your laughter, some kind of tenderness in your face."

The second verse further highlights the theme of memories and their weight, with the singer reflecting on the people who were present during the moment that they are thinking of. The singer wonders if the memories and emotions associated with that moment will hold the same value for those people. The chorus follows the verse, emphasizing the emotional impact of the memories. The bridge of the song is a little different, with the singer asking if the time they spent together will hold the same importance to the other people as it does to them. The final line of the song is cut off, creating an air of ambiguity, and once again emphasizing the weight of memories.

I bought the mission impossible Cd as a kid and I remember playing this on repeat. Thank God I also remembered the name and main lyrics. Super hard to find this group's work if you don't know that much.

@philippinepalestra

Me, too! Though I bought it when I was already in my early 20's. I didn't remember the name of the band nor the song's title, but the words and music of "Some kind of tenderness in your laughter/ Some kind of tenderness in your face" kept humming in my head, intermittently, through the decades! Until early this year, I decided to Google those lines. And likewise, Thank God, I found it here! :-)
