Mutations
Salt The Wound Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Let's pretend that in the end we wouldn't have fallen down.
Instead we'll stand on our feet again, let's pretend.
The day that the starving man never bit me.
This blood drenched man, seemed to cry for help, as he stared at me, his eyes were changing.
Rising to his feet, incapacitated, puking violently, charging straight for me.
With his mouth opened wide drooling intensely, I leapt the fence and ran inside.
In the house I hide, barricading everything, what would come next?
Terrified, running up the stairs, finally found the shotgun kept under my bed.
It's time to put an end to this nightmare; I'll end your life as quickly as I chose to save it.
Removing the Debris only to see, the starving man behind me, as he pounced I never had a chance.

He bit my hand, he fucking bit me, and it's over for you swiftly placed the shotgun, to his head.
I'll share the same fate soon.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Salt The Wound's song Mutations describe a horrific scenario where the singer imagines himself in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. The lyrics begin with an expression of hope that they would've somehow avoided the tragic conclusion of a terrible situation. The singer pretends that they would be able to stand on their feet again instead of falling down. However, the lyrics then take a violent turn as the singer describes a terrifying encounter with a man who seems to be turning into a zombie. The blood-drenched man has changing eyes and seems to be crying for help, but suddenly rises to his feet and charges straight for the singer.

The singer runs inside the house, and in a state of panic, barricades everything and searches for a weapon to defend themselves. They find a shotgun under their bed and decide to end the nightmare by shooting the zombie. But as they remove the debris, they realize that the starving man is standing behind them, and they never had a chance. The zombie bites the singer, and it's all over for them. The lyrics are a graphic and violent description of a world overrun by the undead, and the feeling of hopelessness and despair that comes with it.
