Read Full Bio ↴Sam Brookes is a British alt-folk singer-songwriter based in London.
After a well-received whistle stop UK tour support slot with Kinks front man Ray Davies, Brookes released his debut single on Helium Records as a solo artist Breathe Me In / In Weeks. Brookes is an accomplished musician and performer with an emerging depth and maturity that increasingly shows in his writing. His finely-crafted songs, immaculate phrasing and beautifully modulated delivery reach easily beneath the skin of his audience. The magical space he creates and the elasticity of his writing and playing have the echoes and jazz arches of giants like John Martyn and Tim Buckley who he includes as his influences along with Scott Matthews, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and Laura Marling.

send a search team out to find
The last survivor of the storm, and on this lips you will find him
Wading in your waters treading for time
Wading in your waters
Grated and bruised his body was from the storm
Splintered by the words to which he clung on
Too cold to keep beating on
And i'm wading in your waters
treading for time
wading in your waters
wading in your waters
treading for time
wading in your waters
The frequency jams and a strong wind turns your gaze to dry land
the frequency jams and a strong wind turns your gaze
The frequency jams and a strong wind turns your gaze to dry land
the frequency jams and a strong wind turns your gaze
Frequency by Sam Brookes speaks about the search for truth and clarity in a world that is uncertain and chaotic. The opening lines, "If there's doubt in your mind from here on out, send a search team out to find the last survivor of the storm," set the stage for the journey that the singer is about to embark upon. The storm is a metaphor for the confusion and uncertainty that life can throw our way, and the last survivor represents the truth and clarity that we are all searching for.
The lines, "Grated and bruised his body was from the storm, splintered by the words to which he clung on, soon he'll fall to the cold, too cold to keep beating on," describe the toll that the storm has taken on the survivor. He has been battered and bruised by the chaos, and the words that he has held onto have splintered and left him broken. He is on the verge of giving up, unable to keep fighting against the cold and the darkness that surrounds him.
The chorus, "And I'm wading in your waters, treading for time," reinforces the idea of struggling to survive and stay afloat. The repetition of the line "wading in your waters" drives home the sense of being overwhelmed and inundated by the chaos of life. The final lines of the song, "The frequency jams and a strong wind turns your gaze to dry land," suggest that the truth and clarity that we seek can be found if we just tune out the noise and distractions and focus on what really matters.
