Read Full Bio ↴Sam Brookes is a British alt-folk singer-songwriter based in London.
After a well-received whistle stop UK tour support slot with Kinks front man Ray Davies, Brookes released his debut single on Helium Records as a solo artist Breathe Me In / In Weeks. Brookes is an accomplished musician and performer with an emerging depth and maturity that increasingly shows in his writing. His finely-crafted songs, immaculate phrasing and beautifully modulated delivery reach easily beneath the skin of his audience. The magical space he creates and the elasticity of his writing and playing have the echoes and jazz arches of giants like John Martyn and Tim Buckley who he includes as his influences along with Scott Matthews, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and Laura Marling.

Drink and list all that's wrong and then
We have always just done enough
Won't this year be made of that stuff
If you're weary and find you fail to flow
Let it wash over and release and your toes
Let the grip go that holds that smile in your face
That this is the place.
this is the place
Getting tired but I am strong
Mindless demons they do me wrong
Waiting on a wind of change
I've thrown it all but it stays the same
If you're weary and find you fail to flow
Let it wash over and release and your bones
Let the grip go that holds that smile in your face
Then you'll find then you'll find
That this is the place.
this is the place
And if you fail to flow
Let it wash over and release your bones
Let the grip go that holds that smile in your face
Then you'll find then you'll find
That this is the place.
This is the place.
This is the place
The song "This is the Place" by Sam Brookes is an introspective piece that encourages listeners to let go of their worries and find contentment in the present moment. The first verse suggests that the human tendency is to focus on negative aspects of life and only do the bare minimum, but the upcoming year will be different if we are willing to make a change. The repetitive "this is the place" chorus highlights the importance of being present and content in the current situation.
The second verse portrays the struggle of dealing with personal demons and the feeling of being stuck in a stagnant situation. However, the chorus emphasizes the idea of letting go and being free from negative thoughts and emotions. The line "Let it wash over and release your bones" reinforces the concept of total surrender and embracing the moment.
Overall, "This is the Place" is a powerful and encouraging song that reminds people to focus on the present moment and find joy in the little things. It is a call to let go of worries and negative thoughts and be content with what we have.

Just discovered Sam on an Uncut compilation whilst on holiday in deepest Perthshire. Wow!. Deserves wider recognition. Kairos on my Christmas List rather belatedly. Numb in the tunnel with passers by is simply stunning.
