Growing up in a musical family, Sam began singing in church at the age of five. By the time he was ten, Sam was already penning his own lyrics. Inspired by his sister who played the piano, he taught himself to play guitar, bass, piano, and drums. Sam was born a natural singer without any formal vocal coaching. His father, also a singer, is a big influence.
Sam draws his influences from such greats as Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Eric Clapton, and Gavin DeGraw. He enjoys performing anything acoustic that has soul and is fond of rock, pop, soul, blues, jazz, and country music.
Sam has recently co-written with Jeff Scott Soto (former lead singer of the legendary rock band Journey, Talisman, Soul SirkUS, Yngwie Malmsteen). A few songs are to be released on Jeff’s new solo CD. This is what Jeff had to say about Sam: “Bro, you are the freshest new artist out there. I will be telling the world about you and if there is anything I can do to help you along, rest assured I will. People need to hear Sam Grow. You will be a superstar my friend!”
Sam has also performed with Grammy award winner Kanye West, Kat Parsons, one of the highest selling independent artists in the US, and national touring artist singer/songwriter/pianist Dave Yaden (Marc Broussard, Josh Kelley, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson).
Sam’s latest release “Ignition” is an infusion of Rock, Pop, and Soul that creates an enticing, new listening experience sure to satisfy the ear of a wide range audience. The first cut, “Oh So Jaded”, has become a crowd favorite. “Work in Progress”, Sam’s first CD release, is a five song EP full of Sam’s soulful, bluesy sound. The single “Meant to Be” was the featured track of the day on September 28, 2006 on GarageBand.com and the song peaked at 4.8 out of 5 stars.
This is just the start of Sam’s promising career and he has already started a buzz among the industry.

Putting that pineapple Kettle One on her lips
Looking at me like won't you come say something
Sure as hell, she′s hot, yeah
If you're wondering why she's sittin′ over there
Acting like I′m the only guy that's in here
It ain′t 'cause she gets around now
It′s 'cause we′ve got
We got history
We got broken heart scars
And a tendency to take a mistake too far
In a dim lit corner with a neon light
In a bar like the one we're in tonight
We make a mess of a damn I miss you look
When it comes to giving in again
We wrote the book
And tonight it might fly back off the shelf
′Cause history repeats, history repeats itself
It starts with a moment, where we both know
We′ve had too much, we touch, then we let go
We both gotta have it, 'cause it comes outta habit
Then it comes full circle, it′s just what happens when
We got history
We got broken heart scars
And a tendency to take a mistake too far
In a dim lit corner with a neon light
In a bar like one we're in tonight
We make a mess of a damn I miss you look
When it comes to giving in again
We wrote the book
And tonight it might fly back off the shelf
′Cause history repeats, history repeats itself
We gotta love me and lose me lonely hearts
She's gotta way of pulling me in the dark
We got history
We got broken heart scars
And a tendency to take a mistake too far
In a dim lit corner with a neon light
In a bar like one we′re in tonight
We make a mess of a damn I miss you look
When it comes to giving in again
We wrote the book
And tonight it might fly back off the shelf
'Cause history repeats, history repeats itself
Oh history repeats, history repeats itself
There's a girl in a city dress
Putting that pineapple Kettle One on her lips
The lyrics of Sam Grow's song "History" depict a familiar scenario of two individuals who share a complicated romantic history. The song revolves around the theme of past experiences and how they tend to repeat themselves in relationships. The opening lines introduce us to a girl in a city dress, who catches the attention of the singer. Although she seems interested in him, it becomes apparent that their connection goes deeper than mere physical attraction. The reference to the Kettle One on her lips signifies their shared familiarity and past experiences.
As the song progresses, the chorus reinforces the idea that they have a history together. They both bear the scars of broken hearts and have a tendency to push their mistakes to the extreme. In the dimly lit corner of a bar, their past experiences come to the surface, as they engage in a familiar dance of longing and missed opportunities. The repeated phrase "history repeats itself" emphasizes the cycle they find themselves trapped in. Despite recognizing the potential for a messy outcome, they can't help but give in to their feelings and desire for each other.
The final lines of the song evoke a bittersweet feeling, suggesting that their history might repeat itself once again. The mention of a girl in a city dress with a pineapple Kettle One on her lips is a reminder of the initial scene introduced in the beginning. It implies that history has a way of coming back around, and they may find themselves entangled in their complicated past once more.
Overall, "History" explores the theme of past relationships and how they tend to resurface, shaping the present and potentially repeating themselves in the future. It delves into the emotional complexities of longing, missed connections, and the inability to break free from the patterns established in the past.
