Growing up in a musical family, Sam began singing in church at the age of five. By the time he was ten, Sam was already penning his own lyrics. Inspired by his sister who played the piano, he taught himself to play guitar, bass, piano, and drums. Sam was born a natural singer without any formal vocal coaching. His father, also a singer, is a big influence.
Sam draws his influences from such greats as Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Eric Clapton, and Gavin DeGraw. He enjoys performing anything acoustic that has soul and is fond of rock, pop, soul, blues, jazz, and country music.
Sam has recently co-written with Jeff Scott Soto (former lead singer of the legendary rock band Journey, Talisman, Soul SirkUS, Yngwie Malmsteen). A few songs are to be released on Jeff’s new solo CD. This is what Jeff had to say about Sam: “Bro, you are the freshest new artist out there. I will be telling the world about you and if there is anything I can do to help you along, rest assured I will. People need to hear Sam Grow. You will be a superstar my friend!”
Sam has also performed with Grammy award winner Kanye West, Kat Parsons, one of the highest selling independent artists in the US, and national touring artist singer/songwriter/pianist Dave Yaden (Marc Broussard, Josh Kelley, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson).
Sam’s latest release “Ignition” is an infusion of Rock, Pop, and Soul that creates an enticing, new listening experience sure to satisfy the ear of a wide range audience. The first cut, “Oh So Jaded”, has become a crowd favorite. “Work in Progress”, Sam’s first CD release, is a five song EP full of Sam’s soulful, bluesy sound. The single “Meant to Be” was the featured track of the day on September 28, 2006 on GarageBand.com and the song peaked at 4.8 out of 5 stars.
This is just the start of Sam’s promising career and he has already started a buzz among the industry.

She′s on the phone with her best friend
Sayin' this is it...
Packin′ all her shhhhh
Better re-download my uber
Heard my bar is servin' two-fers
Rather drink than fight
Imma let her say goodbye
Now that she's really gone
Pour me another one
Don′t let my glass run out
I′d rather be free again
Than be stuck on this rusty merry go-round
I hope she gassed up her daddy's pickup
She′s using for movin' out
Hell if I′m gonna chase her down
I'm hell bent on being whiskey bound
As my buzz gets deeper
Her leavin′ gets sweeter
Keep an open tab
I'll close up on what we had
Got ol' Hank on touch tunes
This is what he′d do
Screw "Lonesome I Could Cry"
Imma celebrate tonight
Yyyeaaahhh
Now that she′s really gone
Pour me another one
Don't let my glass run out
I′d rather be free again
Than be stuck on this rusty merry go-round
I hope she gassed up her daddy's pickup
She′s using for movin' out
Hell if I′m gonna chase her down
I'm hell bent on being whiskey bound
Now that she's really gone
Pour me another one
Don′t let me glass run out
I′d rather be free again
Than be stuck on this rusty merry go-round
I hope she gassed up her daddy's pickup
She′s using for movin' out
Hell if I′m gonna chase her down
I'm hell bent on being whiskey bound
Yeahhh
I′m hell bent on being whiskey bound
Sam Grow's song Whiskey Bound carries a theme of a man left behind by a woman who has decided to leave him. He depicts the man as someone who is too proud, or perhaps too scared, to try and stop her from leaving, despite how he might feel about it. From the opening line of the song, the hook "this time feels different; she's on the phone with her best friend sayin' this is it; packin' all her shhhhh," we can tell that the woman has made up her mind and is not coming back. The man acknowledges that and tells us that he is going to let her go, "rather drink than fight; Imma let her say goodbye."
The rest of the song shows us what he does with his newfound freedom, or rather, what he doesn't do. He sits at the bar and drinks, trying to drown his sorrows and forget about his lost love. Perhaps it is the only way he knows how to deal with the pain, maybe he doesn't want to face the reality that she is gone. He tries to enjoy himself by playing Hank Williams on the jukebox and celebrating his newfound freedom; he tells us he is "hell-bent on being whiskey bound." Through this song, Sam Grow captures the feeling of a man who has lost something that he cannot get back, but his pride won't let him try.
