With a penchant for injecting powerful emotions and memorable themes, Sam’s original scores range from sweeping sci-fi and orchestral bombast to fantasy landscapes.
Graduating from Indiana University as a computer programmer, Sam sought to combine his passion for writing imaginative music and interactive media. In 2003 he won the Game Audio Network Guild award for young composers. His first foray into the profession of scoring music for video games was Capcom’s Maximo Vs. Army of Zin.
Sam’s career propelled to new heights when he was approached to co-write the score for Mass Effect with Jack Wall. Sam penned various memorable compositions such as the iconic “Mass Effect Theme,” as well as “From the Wreckage,” “Sovereign’s Theme,” “Victory,” “Uplink,” and many more. The ‘80s inspired electronic score was lauded by critics as “One of the most memorable and unique soundtracks in gaming,” (Game Informer) and won Best Original Score awards from IGN, GameSpy and GameSpot.
For Mass Effect 2, Sam was again tapped for his adept skill of inventive blending of analog synths with orchestral instrumentation. The soundtrack featured a suitably darker and more cinematic musical experience to complement the sequel’s heavier subject matter. Mass Effect 2 received British Academy (BAFTA) and Spike TV VGA nominations for Best Original Score.
After enjoying the collaborative process on the Mass Effect franchise, Sam branched out as a solo composer, composing ninety minutes of classical-influenced orchestral score for Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad. Sam composed the evocative, emotional and haunting music that sets the mood for one of the most brutal battles in all of human history – the battle for Stalingrad. Red Orchestra 2 features a unique dynamic music system that adapts the emotional mood of the soundtrack to match the morale of the player based on the flow of the battle. To highlight the differences between the two warring powers Sam wrote a completely unique soundtrack for both the German and Russian perspectives.
In 2012 Sam returns to the sci-fi genre, contributing original music for the highly anticipated Mass Effect 3. The soundtrack features gripping musical arrangements that set the captivating tone for Commander Shepard’s struggle to take Earth back from an ancient alien race known as the Reapers.
Sam resides in Chicago and is currently writing his debut artist album.

in me2 you were assaulting some pawn minion base.
In m3 you were trying to survive an existential threat that has killed millions generations before, a threat that the game kept bashing you over the head how is *literally unbeatable*. The 2nd half of the game pushes this even further by implying that everyone will just go and die fighting, not even expecting to survive or even less - win.
This exactly why I love how Priority: Earth basically has no music whatsoever, just raw sounds of human screams, gunfire, explosions and death all around you. This isn't an adventure that you were preparing for in the background for 40 hours, this is a harvest you were trying to survive for 40 hours.
And I am not trying to devalue to awesomeness that is the suicide mission. Yes, it's a great mission, but it's great because the game earns it. You are simply fighting Reaper pawn soldiers, literal minion zombies.
Me3 trying to replicate that would fail miserably.
Ranoch is another memorable mission in the series, mainly because it shows how it takes consecutive orbital bombardment synched together by FIFTY FUCKING THOUSAND SHIPS just to down a single pawn reaper that is more than 11x smaller than a normal reaper. This is the only reaper in the entirety of mass effect 3 that gets actually killed by conventional means, and even that took FIFTY FUCKING THOUSAND rounds of consecutive fire down the reapers throat, assuming the ships fired multiple rounds with multiple weapons attached to each specific ship and you're looking at more than HALF A MILLION ROUNDS of massive caliber projectiles directly firing at just a simple small reaper pawn ground troop just to disable it's motor functions, the reaper doesn't even die after that, it still talks and taunts you proving how there's an infinite number more of them and how wasting billions of credits on the rounds fired just to kill it is a pointless struggle.

The fact that YouTube gives a warning of suicides before this masterpiece plays is actually extremly offensive.

Agree

Incredibly offensive, make sure to report it as feedback clicking on the 3 dots.
Pokerit
They think you might commit suicide because you can't play this game for the first time ever again.
Nicottia
True, pretty sure they decided to automatically flag YT vids with 'suicide' in their titles...Whatever bot or AI they used for this needs some old fashioned calibrating. Just send Garrus over there and it'll be sorted out. ;)

@NicottiaAi should be illegal, just like in the ME universe

Personally i can say this was the most epic videogame finale i've gone through. The Soundtrack is so powerful. It symbolise the fear of facing an overwhelming enemy but also there is so much hope in it. To be honest im new to the series and I haven't complete the third game yet, but the first two games were such an amazing experience. First time playing I was completely hooked to first game and allways wanna find out more about the lore and everything. Second game takes the good stuff of the first and expanded it much more! Great characters, many new ones but also characters from the first game like Tali. Mass effect 2 was an amazing Journey with an amazing final. I was thrilled all the time that everyone would make it home alive.
