Pray
Sam Smith Ft Logic Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Rose above the rubble
Rather live inside they bubble then go through the trouble of havin' they double double vision correct it
They neglect it and
I been thinking lately
Will the Devil take me? or will God protect me?
I know I ain't perfect, but you should respect me
They don't want me happy
I'm young and I'm foolish, I make bad decisions
I block out the news, turn my back on religion
Don't have no degree, I'm somewhat naïve
I've made it this far on my own
But lately, that shit ain't been gettin' me higher
I lift up my head and the world is on fire
There's dread in my heart and fear in my bones
And I just don't know what to say
Maybe I'll pray, pray
Maybe I'll pray
I have never believed in you, no
But I'm gonna pray
I am me
I'm a man, I'm a sinner
But understand, aren't we all?
So when it comes to passing judgements I don't think that you're the one to make the call
Heaven want to cast me out for being me, I know there's like me that'll break the fall
I know you hater motherfuckers just can't relate at all
If I'm the first one to the line that's fine, I'll take it all
Well Logic, he gon' let 'em know
I ain't perfect, but I'm worth it
I'm alive, I deserve it
I been praying, I ain't playin'
I don't think you hear the words that I'm sayin'
I don't think you know the weight on my shoulders
That gets heavier as I get older
Callin' anybody, callin' anybody
"Can you hear me?"
I pray that you hear me
I pray that you hear me
Maybe I'll pray (Lord), pray (Lord), maybe I'll pray
I've never believed in you, no, but I'm gonna
Won't you call me?
Can we have a one-on-one, please?
Let's talk about freedom
Everyone prays in the end
Everyone prays in the end
Oh, won't you call me?
Can we have a one-on-one, please?
Let's talk about freedom
Everyone prays in the end
Everyone prays in the end
Oh, I'm gonna pray, I'm gonna pray, I'm gonna pray
Pray for a glimmer of hope
Maybe I'll pray, pray, maybe I'll pray
I've never believed in you, no, but I'm gonna pray
In the song "Pray" by Logic, the artist ponders his struggles with faith and religion, as well as his place in the world. He describes feeling misunderstood and judged by others who live in their own comfortable "bubble" and neglect his struggles. He questions whether God will protect him or whether the Devil will take him, acknowledging that he is not perfect but still deserves respect. He also reflects on the challenges he has faced as a young man who has made mistakes, yet continues to pray and hope for a better future.
Throughout the song, Logic expresses his frustration with the world and his search for meaning and purpose. He talks about feeling like an outsider and not fitting in, yet still holding on to hope and faith. He acknowledges that he is not alone in his struggles and that everyone ultimately prays for something, whether it be freedom, hope, or something else entirely. Despite his doubts and uncertainties, Logic remains resilient and determined to keep fighting.
Overall, the song "Pray" is a powerful reflection on the challenges of life, faith, and hope. It reminds us that everyone struggles at times and that it is important to hold on to hope and continue to pray for a better future.

[Verse 1: Logic]
They never knew my struggle
Rose above the rubble
Rather live inside they bubble
Than go through the trouble
Of having they double-double vision corrected
They just neglect it and—
I've been thinkin' lately
Will the Devil take me?
Or will God protect me?
I know I ain't perfect, but you should respect me
They don't want me happy
They don't want to let me live
[Verse 2: Sam Smith]
I'm young and I'm foolish, I made bad decisions
I block out the news, turn my back on religion
Don't have no degree, I'm somewhat naïve
I've made it this far on my own
But lately, that shit ain't been gettin' me higher
I lift up my head and the world is on fire
There's dread in my heart and fear in my bones
And I just don't know what to say
[Chorus: Sam Smith]
Maybe I'll pray, pray
Maybe I'll pray
I have never believed in you, no
But I'm gonna pray
[Verse 3: Logic]
I am me
I'm a man, I'm a sinner
But understand, aren't we all?
So when it comes to passin' judgements
I don't think that you're the one to make the call
Heaven want to cast me out for being me
I know there's others like me that'll break the fall
I know you hater motherfuckers just can't relate at all
If I'm the first one to the line, that's fine, I'll take it all

I pray that you hear me

[Bridge: Sam Smith]

But I'm gonna pray
You won't find me in church (no) reading the Bible (no)
I am still here and I'm still your disciple
I'm down on my knees, I'm beggin' you, please
I'm broken, alone, and afraid
I'm not a saint, I'm more of a sinner
I don't wanna lose, but I fear for the winners
When I tried to explain, the words ran away
That's why I am stood here today
And I'm gonna pray (Lord)
Pray (Lord), maybe I'll pray
Pray for a glimmer of hope
Maybe I'll pray (Lord), pray (Lord), maybe I'll pray
I've never believed in you, no, but I'm gonna

The stakes are high
Let's all reach beyond the sky
My lord our God you know my why
Close your eyes AsOneWePray to defy
We learn to swim like fish i yearn to fly
Let's all do today for Tomorrow
Knowing all the blessings will follow
The truth to the dare for most hard to swallow
Our children are our future be their role model
Everyday is a new beginning
I pray with the sun before my eyes we winning

The phrase "everyone prays in the end" is poignant and haunting. The song and the video do such a crazy good job of showing the struggle we continually face in our relationship with our creator, doubt in our beliefs, and coming to terms with what it means to be human. It feels like the essence of humanity just jumps through the song and video.

It takes being there to know. I love that we see through the glass darkly now, but it won't be forever. We will all KNOW TRUTH.

When Bobby said “I don’t think you know the weight on my shoulders, that gets heavier as I get older” I honestly felt that on a different level.
