Lately You On Frequent Myspace
You Know I Am Not The Type To Low Key Creep Around
You're Messing Up On Your Way Out
Always In My Caller Id
Looking For A Place To Catch Me
This Is Crazy
Oh No
I"M Just Trying To Breathe
And You're Just All Over Me
You're Oppressing Me
Fall Back I Need Some Room
You Want This Thing To Work
I Need You To Do All The Necessary Things To Keep Me
But You Just Keep On Pushing Me
You're About To Barely Be My Boyfriend
Again You're Questioning Me Where About I've Been
When I Just Left Before Ten
We Are So Preliminary
All This Stress Unnecessary
This Is Crazy
Boy You Think We're Married
Oh No
I'm Just Trying To Breathe
And You're Just All Over Me
You're Oppressing Me
Fall Back I Need Some Room
You Want This Thing To Work
I Need You To Do All The Necessary Things To Keep Me
But You Just Keep On Pushing Me
You're About To Barely Be My Boyfriend.
I Don't Remember "I Do" Nor Saw A Wedding Ring
Only A Few Months In
And I'm Ready To Leave
So What You Think We're Meant To Be
You're Just A Boyfriend
You're Oppressing Me
Fall Back I Need Some Room
You Want This Thing To Work
I Need You To Do All The Necessary Things To Keep Me
But You Just Keep On Pushing Me
You're About To Barely Be My Boyfriend.
The lyrics to Samantha Jade's song "Boyfriend" tell the story of a woman who is feeling oppressed and suffocated by her partner's overly clingy behavior. She begins by questioning why he's always in her face and checking up on her, even going so far as to frequent her MySpace page. Despite her attempts to assert her independence and need for space, the partner continues to push and suffocate her with possessiveness and jealousy. She even compares their relationship to being married when they are only in the early stages of dating.
The woman reaches a breaking point, telling her partner that he needs to give her room to breathe if he wants their relationship to work. However, he continues to push and oppress her, leaving her feeling like he'll barely even be her boyfriend. In the end, she realizes that their relationship is not meant to be and that she's ready to leave.
The song's lyrics explore themes of boundaries, possessiveness, and the importance of individual space in a relationship. It's a relatable message for anyone who has ever felt suffocated by a partner's clingy behavior.
