Born & raised in the Bay Area, the 24-year-old artist grew up on a healthy diet of ‘90s and ‘00s R&B/pop including Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child and Justin Timberlake, among others.
Samaria’s early interest in music caught the attention of her late grandmother who offered incentives for good grades like piano lessons & Nickelodeon auditions to encourage her granddaughter to pursue a career in the performing arts field.
When her grandmother passed, the then 14-year-old spiraled into depression and stopped showing up to school, resulting in her almost flunking her freshman year. Eventually she took the encouragement to heart by beginning to write music that evolved into posting originals and a popular Drake remix on her SoundCloud by the time she was a high school junior. Buzz from her tracks led to a working relationship with a prominent West Coast producer with whom she linked up with to produce her debut EP “The Story of Right Now”.
Incorporating clever word-play songwriting..the last couple of years have seen Samaria's release standout singles like “Foolish,” an atmospheric, meditative wave of self-reflection, and the lovesick, early ‘00s-influenced “Shy Girl,” an anthem for catching your crush’s attention when you’re a natural introvert.
Something Better

I threw in my pieces don't wanna play (nomore)
Cuz you don't play fair babe
Had me keeping faith in something dead
Its taken some time but you've always been two steps ahead
(And it just ain't fair baby)
While you were out here weighing options by the minute
I know I'm not crazy, this ain't how my daddy raised me
Had to get my heart together just to make it through
Life was bound to throw me curves believe me that I knew
Just never thought that you would be the one to leave the bruise
The way you do the things you do
Set me free leave room for someone else to lead, lead me to something better
Cuz i need something better
Leave me be leave time for someone else to see
That i need something better
Someone to love me better
Dont wanna play nomore
Cuz you don't play fair baby
The way you do the things you do
Set me free leave room for someone else to lead, lead me to something better.
Cuz i need something better,
Leave me be leave time for someone else to see
That I need something better
Someone to love me better
The lyrics of Samaria's song "Something Better" depict a relationship that is draining and emotionally exhausting for the singer. The opening lines question whether the other person has won the game, indicating that they have been competing against each other in the relationship. The singer is tired of playing, having thrown in all of their pieces and not wanting to continue anymore, especially since the other person doesn't play fair. It's as if the singer has recognized the game is rigged against them and they don't want to participate anymore.
The next lines describe the singer's faith in the relationship being in something that is already dead, something that can no longer be saved. It has taken time for the singer to realize that the other person has always been two steps ahead and that it's not a fair game. While the singer tried to imagine life with the other person, they were weighing their options with other people. The singer is not crazy, and the way they were raised wouldn't condone the way they are being treated. In order to get out of the situation, the singer had to gather their heart and strength and make it through, knowing that life will inevitably throw them more challenges.
The chorus is a plea for the other person to set the singer free so that they can move on to something better. The singer needs someone to love them better and is yearning for the freedom to find that person. Essentially, the singer is saying that it's time for the other person to step out of the way and make room for someone who will value them.
