Góða tungl
Samaris Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Góða tungl um loft þú líður,
ljúft við skýja silfur skaut.
Eins og viljinn alvalds býður,
eftir þinni vissu braut.
Öllum þreyttum, ljós þitt ljáðu,
læðstu um glugga sérhvern inn.
Lát í húmi, hjörtun þjáðu
huggast blítt við geisla þinn.

Góða tungl um götur skírðar
gengur þú og lýsir vel.
Þar er setti sér til dýrðar,
Sjálfur Guð, þitt bjarta hvel.
Lít til vorra lágu ranna,
lát þitt friðarandlit sjást.
Og sem vinhýr vörður manna
Vitna þú um drottins ást.

Góða tungl í geislamóðu
glansar þú í stjarnasæ
og með svifi hvelfist hljóðu
hátíðlega' í næturblæ.
Þú oss færir, frá þeim hæsta
föður mildan náðar koss,

Og til morguns, gullinglæsta,
góða tungl þú leiðir oss.

Overall Meaning

The first verse of Samaris's song "Góða tungl" speaks about a serene moon that glides through the sky, leaving a trail of silver amidst the clouds. The persona sings about following the path that the Almighty bids, and asks the moon to bestow its light upon all who are tired and struggling, to bring comfort to their hearts. The persona depicts the image of someone feeling troubled, yet finding solace in the moon's beams, which provide a soothing embrace.

The second verse speaks about the moon walking on holy roads, lighting them up and spreading glory wherever it goes. The persona calls upon the moon to look upon our lowly streams and allow its peaceful countenance to be seen. Additionally, the person requests the moon to be a watchful guardian of mankind, bearing witness to the love of the Lord.

The song's lyrics incorporate spiritual themes and metaphorical language to paint a picture of the moon as a guiding light, symbolizing hope and peace for those who are struggling. The song is sung in Icelandic, which is a language that intertwines history, legend, and culture.

Kind moon, you glide across the sky,

sweetly at the silver lining.

As the will of the almighty offers,

according to your steady path.

Lend all the tired ones your light,

tiptoe in every window,

But leave the suffering hearts in darkness.

does anyone know if this is this the correct translation?

I'm mind blown. Utterly witchy beautiful'ness, tribal, primal, unique and top notch. I cannot say enough . This just hits me in the center of my soul and it's going to stay there.

I heard this song 2 years ago while driving at 3 in the morning. The local college station plays a lot of indie music and this came on. Thank you Shazam for knowing who the artist was.

I think you should keep on making music in Icelandic. I know that its kind of difficult to make good money or make a living out of music when you sing in a language which only 300k+ people can understand, but still. Your language is beautiful and please dont give up using it. Wish you all the best.
