Possession
Samhain Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I want to crawl inside your soul
Nestle in your brain
Stand you on your head
Crouch you on all fours

Oh, I will walk among your dreams
When you think you are asleep
The invitation of your mind
Beckons me to your sin

All the things that you say and feel

For I will be inside your speech
Say the words you must not say
For I will lurk inside your heart
If you can take it and survive

As it must always be
For it will fight you tooth and nail
As it must always be
The demon always wins

All the things that you say and feel
Become
Possession, riding
Possession, riding you hard
Possession, riding you hard, ha

And I will worm into your skull
Make you beg to be my whore
Do my bidding day and night
And I will make you be my wife

As it must always be
Because possession
As it must always be
For it will fight you tooth and nail
As it must always be
Possession
As it must always be

All the things that you say and feel
Become
Possession, riding
Possession, riding you hard
Possession, riding you hard, oh
Possession, riding you hard

Possession, riding you hard
Possession, riding you hard

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "Possession" by Samhain suggest a dark and obsessive desire to enter someone's mind and possess them completely. The singer expresses a desire to crawl into the soul and brain of the person and control their thoughts, even influencing their dreams. The tone is eerie and unsettling as the singer describes wanting to make the person do their bidding and become their "whore" or "wife", indicating a possessive and dominating relationship.

The repeated line "As it must always be" suggests a fatalistic view of possession, that the demon or possessive force always wins and that the person will be helpless to resist. The song highlights the power dynamic in possession, where the controlled person is at the mercy of the possessor and can only survive by submitting to them, even as they become ridden hard by the possession.

Overall, the song portrays a disturbing desire for control and possession that borders on the demonic. It speaks to themes of power, submission, and the fear of losing oneself to an overpowering force.

Great video, that's cool you took the time to throw all those cool old pics and flyers. I think it's a rare breed of us that really enjoy this era of Danzig. His darkest stuff for sure.

Great pics & flyers. This band was incredibly underappreciated. Saw them in Chicago in '85 with maybe 200 others at the show, mostly standing around 'til they played "Die, Die ..." & the place exploded for a couple minutes. "The Howl" & "I Am Misery" are two of the best songs Glenn ever recorded.
