Bad Day
Samiam Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's been another bad day
Just saw a dog get hit on the freeway
With my stomach in my mouth
I almost hit a truck driving in the next lane

Spent all my money on beer
And I've got rent to pay
I was late again this morning
I'm lying in the bed I've made

If I had a fallout shelter
I could lock myself inside and sleep
Somebody could come and drop a bomb on me
Maybe then something would change

Lately I can't stand people
They're always rubbing me the wrong way
I don't feel like smiling
It wouldn't look right on my face

That's just the way I feel
That's just the way I feel

It's been another bad day

It's been another bad day
It's been another bad day

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Samiam's song "Bad Day" paint a vivid picture of a person having a series of unfortunate events happening to them throughout their day. The first verse describes the singer's shock and horror as they witness a dog getting hit on the freeway whilst they were driving. This traumatic event causes their stomach to turn, highlighting the raw emotion they're feeling. In the next line, the singer narrowly avoids crashing into a truck in the adjacent lane, adding to the tension and unease of the situation. The second verse focuses on the singer's financial struggles as they reveal they've spent all their money on beer when they should have been saving for rent. This displays a lack of responsibility, further compounding the issues the singer is facing. Being late for work only adds to the growing list of problems they're experiencing.

The bridge explores the idea of wanting to hide away from everything and everyone; the singer feels that they are unable to escape their problems and would like a fallout shelter to retreat to, where things would calm down. The chorus voices the recurring theme of the song - that this is just another bad day in what seems like a never-ending cycle of misfortune. The final verse is marked by the singer's increasing disdain for those around them, as they seem to be the cause of more problems than they solve. They don't feel like smiling, even though it is socially expected, as it wouldn't be a genuine expression. The song ends as it began, with the singer proclaiming yet another bad day.

Overall, "Bad Day" is a song that perfectly captures the frustration and stress that can build up in everyday life. The lyrics are relatable to anyone who's ever had a tough day, and the raw emotion expressed through the song is palpable. The feeling of being unable to escape or control one's situation is a universal human experience, and it's captured excellently in this song.

I'm just about 42 and have my finger on the punk pulse but i haven't come across any recent bands that sound like this, there ia one that i can think of that reminds me of them but the name slips me right now. There are some good bands out there but not many sound like these old 90's bandsbut if you know of any shoot me some names!

@1thess523

Cool, i know the Descendents tour manager. He's a guy out of Houston Tx that played for a band called Latch Key Kids, my old band put in Houston back in the mid 90's and that's where I met him, he's a cool guy and a really goos guitarist /singer. He was just the guitarist for Latch Key Kids but sang in a band called Fat Chance that was really good, there's a band called Fat Chance on YouTube but that's not them.

@1thess523

cool, my show days are over for the most part. Back in the mid 90's when I was not married with children and played in a band we opened up for some good bands and saw tons of these bands in their prime for dirt cheap, the average price was $0-5 for 1-2 bands and max $10 for shows like (NOFX,Face To Face,Snuff), on one bill and another was (Smoking Popes,Bracket, and Tilt) and other was (Bad Religion,Green Day,ALL). Those were the days!!!!
