Affirmation
Sammy Hagar & The Circle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Got it all and I'm still not satisfied
Hit the wall had to call on Jesus
Had a talk with the man in the mirror
Never knew him till now
Now the walls coming down
Affirmation

Wake up, slow down, reach out, look around
Close your eyes and shut up, give back, listen

Got it all and I'm still not satisfied
Hit the wall had to call on Jesus
Had a talk with the man in the mirror
Never knew him till now
Now the walls coming down
Affirmation

You got to unplug, laugh out loud, be right, pay attention
Touch things, make friends, love, don't judge, believe
Don't hate, don't hate, don't hate

Overall Meaning

The song "Affirmation" by Sammy Hagar & The Circle explores the idea of finding satisfaction and meaning in life beyond material possessions and accomplishments. The lyrics convey a sense of restlessness and discontent despite having "got it all," perhaps referring to the emptiness that can come with a life focused solely on material success. The line "hit the wall had to call on Jesus" suggests that the singer has come to a point where they need to turn to a higher power to find clarity and direction.

The chorus "affirmation" represents the idea of finding positivity and hope in a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming and chaotic. The list of actions in the verses ("wake up, slow down, reach out, look around," etc.) emphasize the importance of being present in the moment, listening to others, and expressing kindness and compassion. The repetition of the word "affirmation" at the end of the song reinforces the message that finding meaning and fulfillment in life is an ongoing process that requires daily choices and actions.

Love it....simple, straight forward, just a good ol' ROCK song. This reminds me of the 80's rock when rock was raw and fun and wasn't filled with Drop B tunning 8-string pyrotechnic playing.....just awesome

Good pocket, rocking 8th note groove - love that Jason B is on drums. Every drummer Sammy has played with are legends, but Jason has his Dad's immense groove - that is a huge bonus. Sounds good. This sounds like it's going to be a killer record overall.
