This is fantastic, I love this piece so much but I've always wondered what the cello music actually looked like; now I know!

I'm just back to listen again because I haven't felt mind-blown lately, and this piece always fires me up :)

The second movement just resonates with the loneliest part of my soul... This and the Fahrenheit 451/Herrmann cue "The Road" feel like they embody some bittersweet 'finality' of perpetual isolation and longing for the lost or the impossible.
George Martin's "Friends and Lovers" is like that too, come to think of it. It's just a favourite emotional colour palette for me--thank you so much for uploading it (WITH the score synced!): you're a gem!!!

listen to Virgil Thompson Cello concerto second movement (variations on a southern hymn). It has the same heartbroken feel

Great moments of opera

What a wonderful resource. So glad you used the greatest recording of this wonderful masterpiece in this video!

What a wonderful concerto. Not as 'obvious' as the violin concerto, or as gritty as the piano concerto. Why is it never performed?

Adam Schreiber Music

it's hard. it kicked my ass when i learned it back in undergrad. super fun to play once you got it down, especially the 3rd mvt

Andrew Petersen

It's hard,..the same with Mennin's concerto.

Kenneth Perkins music

This is great! Of course my favorite movement is first!!
