Barber's Symphony is underrated, and forgotten in America.
It's wonderful to see it performed by one of the finest orchestras in the world and helping to make the music international.
Bravo!

Allan Cronin

Marin Alsop really has a feel for this neo romantic Americana. She’s a wonderful conductor.

For what it's worth, Barber completed this work shortly before he turned 26. When it was performed at the opening concert of the 1937 Salzburg Festival, it became the first symphonic work by an American composer to be played at the festival.

"For what it's worth"? It's worth very much....Why self-deprecate?

A good thing in listening music on the internet is that every now and then you find a real gem. Like this 1st of Barber. Thank you Frankfurt Symphony and Ms Alsop!

I would like to hear a lot more BARBER if this is anything to go by . We hear the Adagio a lot on radio and a handful of other pieces. This was wonderful. Superb orchestra and Marin!

ThaSchwab

Cello Concerto, Violin Concerto, three Essays for orchestra

Dave Barclay

@ThaSchwab I also suggest Knoxville, Summer of 1915

Edward Coe

Barber is great - it's a shame he is only popularly known for the Adagio. Try the violin concerto.

Peter Whyte

And include the beautiful and exciting piano concerto.
