Childhood:
Samy Deluxe grew up with his mothers family as his Sudanese father left Germany when Samy was just two years old. Shortly after this event his half-sister was born. After living in Barmbek for many years they then moved to Eppendorf, a generally better-off suburb of Hamburg. Given this contrast - he certainly did not come from a well-off background - and his constant problems at school with teachers who he often defied, he looked for a release and a way to express himself away from school. He soon discovered music.
Style:
Samy modelled himself on American hip hop. This gave him a great sense of caring for his family, although he boasts of having had a good relationship with his mother and the people who looked after him. He practised all year long writing lyrics and spitting them, he has outstanding freestyling skills. Even his fiercest rivals have admitted that he is one of the best Freestylers in Germany.
Audacious and eloquent, Samy initially chose an aggressive style, based on imaginative use of metaphors, complex overlapping rhymes and his own melodic flow. He favours constructing contantly changing pictures rather than telling long stories. Critics find fault with his limited content and repetitive subjects, but Sam Semillia (as he calls himself, taken from the non-toxis form of the cannabis plant, Sinsemilia) has responded by saying that he can only rap in the style and about the subjects that feel real to him.
Starting Out:
Before working with Dynamite Deluxe he was a member of German Hip Hop group "No Nonsens". He became very well known due to his many guest appearances on the CDs put out by hip hop artists such as Freundeskreis, the Stieber Twins, Main Concept, Eins Zwo, Ferris MC, Absolute Beginner, Das Bo and 5 Sterne Deluxe. It was the latter group in particular that he performed many concerts with. He also took it upon himself to do the festivals all over Germany in order to make a name for himself.

Heut' gehört deutscher Rap in'n Müll
Offiziell, prinzipiell, generell
Fick, ob mein Label 'ne kommerziellere Single will
Dies nich für's Stadion, dies nich' für's Radio
Dies hier is kein Partysong, is' eigentlich schade drum
Dies is' 'ne Kultur, dies is' mehr als Unterhaltung
Leute wollen mein' alten Scheiß? Kauft mein altes Album
Dies is SchwarzWeiss, ja, ich heiß' euch herzlich willkommen
Kaum aufgenommen, schon 'n Klassiker
Neoexpressionnist, Jean Michel Basquiat (hebt die Hände hoch)
Auf Beats, die ich grad gebastelt hab
Hier auf meiner MPC, lasst mich eure Hände sehen, was geht ab?
Dies is' keine Promotour, dies is' deutsche Hochkultur
Styles, KRS-One, bisschen Rakim Allah
Bisschen Pac, bisschen Nas, bisschen H to the Izzo
Tiefsinnige Lyrik meets Phrasengedresche
Sage was ich will, Mann, was das für'n Gefühl is
Competition hier is' so wie eins minus eins is'
The song "Hande hoch" by German rapper Samy Deluxe is a call to action for listeners to raise their hands if they are feeling the "Scheiß", which translates to something akin to "the struggle" or "the pain" in English. Samy is back on the scene and planning to make a statement with his music once again. He wants to bring back the essence of hip-hop that he feels has been lost in recent years with commercialization and a lack of expression. The song speaks to the need for authenticity and meaningful lyrics in the rap genre.
Samy notes the changes that have taken place in German rap, with the beats becoming too polished and the lyrics too focused on commercial success. Nevertheless, he tells fans that they can still buy his old albums if they want to listen to his earlier work, which he calls "SchwarzWeiss". He wants to be more than just another rapper, he wants to provide general education through his music. Samy offers a call to the audience to come together to return rap to its roots and remind everyone what the movement was originally about.
Overall, "Hande hoch" is a commentary on the current state of German rap and the music industry at large. Samy urges fans to join him in making rap great again, by producing music that is authentic, raw, and has meaning.
